“A good, if uninspiring hotel”

As with alot of these old/heritage style hotels the rooms are variable, we were unlucky in that we were on the groung floor with little natural light. A pleasant enough hotel, the public spaces are a little cramped nothing outstanding.

This iconic and beautiful hotel is perfectly maintained in every respect. The decor, artifacts, art, furniture and ambiance compliment the history of this gorgeous building.

The rooms we stayed on two different visits were large and comfortable. The hotel is to be congratulated for including wifi connection in the room rate, which can be used anywhere in the hotel.

The staff training in many areas fell short of expectations and did not measure up to a hotel of this standard. Many of the hotel staff are excellent, but are let down by others who were at best, mediocre. These issues were significantly important to bring to the attention of management, who to some extent (but not completely) were able make some corrections,

Stayed at this iconic hotel as a part of our city getaway to celebrate our 15th. Wedding anniversary!
The Imperial is a part of the history of New Delhi and it even transcends from one of the most luxurious hotels in town, to be a museum of sorts of the Raj era India. Beautiful art and pictures from the era adorn the walls of this stunning white building set in lush green lawns in a mix of artdeco-colonial style of architecture.
Highs- We were thankfully upgraded to their second category of rooms- "The heritage room" which itself was quite spacious so I can imagine the upper category of rooms will be quite nice. Fifteen feet high ceilings, large windows streaming light in, small change rooms and plush bathrooms. All spotless and shining. Top class bedding, period-classical teak wood furniture and moderns spoils like an ipod dock/LCD television etc. Were sent a complimentary bottle of wine and a cake!!
Lows- Room Service Food: All their iconic restaurants and bars, (where we have spent many a evening together with friends in the good old days), have turned non-smoking, so decided against going down to any of them and spend the evening in the beautiful room instead! Ordered room service- Biryani and Raita- The biryani was very ordinary, and just about palatable and the raita was sour and looked it had been in the refrigerator for a week! Not food that you would expect out of a top class luxury hotel!
Breakfast Buffet the next morning-included in room tarriff - was ok-acceptable. But what was not was the service quality and the overall feeling. The beautiful lawn, where we had hoped to sun ourselves, was out of bound to guests as it had been let out for a private party; at 10.30 sharp they closed the buffet and 10.45 they started moving furniture in the middle of many of us eating, and we had dozens of people taking in and out tables, setting them for what we came to know was the Sunday brunch at the same place. For a guest staying just for one night, it was all quite distasteful. Compromising guest experience for the bottom line and commercial targets!
Overall- The Imperial, could have been one of the finest hotels in the world. But, just falls short. Paid about $300 for the night, including taxes, breakfast and the small room service order; so expensive for the overall experience it provided. But if you can afford it, worth staying for a night or just going for their famous afternoon tea at the Atrium to experience a living museum which is also a hotel!

The Imperial has been over the years our choice when in Delhi. The spectacular architecture and interior, the comfy and first class rooms make it one of the best hotels in India. Service is impeccable, breakfast a delight and the variety of restaurants serving delicious food a pure pleasure.

I will be in New Delhi in February and would like to make reservations for afternoon tea at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 for three people. I have sent emails, sent messages on Facebook, and my daughter has sent emails. No one will respond to us. I noticed that the staff responds to reviews on Tripadvisor and am hoping I can get someone's attention this way. If not, we will take our business elsewhere.

I stayed at The Imperial over the holidays and had a wonderful experience.

The experience started long before my arrival, earlier that fall with an e-mail exchange with a concierge at the hotel, Mr. Albert John. I e-mailed the hotel about a stay at the hotel and also help with planning an itinerary for a visit to Rajasthan. I received a prompt reply from Mr. Albert John with some helpful information as well as some thoughtful questions.

Mr. Albert gave me a few itinerary options in terms of cities to visit and routes. I chose one and Mr. Albert helped me every step of the way, arranging hotels, a wonderful driver named Mr. Ashok, activities and guides in each of the cities we visited, and even a camel safari. I am very detail-oriented person and contacted Mr. Albert on a very regular basis leading up to the trip. I called and e-mailed A LOT and Mr. Albert was always happy to help and was extremely patient with all of my questions. He even made himself available on his mobile phone during off hours, going above and beyond any expectations.

Our driver, Mr. Ashok was an expert driver along with being very kind and knowledgeable.

We arrived in Delhi quite late on a Friday evening and Mr. Albert went out of this way to stay for our 11pm arrival and greet us at the hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful and has a rich history. The staff made themselves available at all times and were always there with help.

The restaurants at The Imperial were delicious. On our first evening, we dined at Daniell, which had delicious, traditional Indian cuisine. On another evening we dined at Spice Route, which is a truly beautiful space with some wonderfully inventive dishes and drinks. The host at the restaurant was very welcoming and helpful.

We visited the spa for a massage the night after our arrival and the experience was fantastic. The massage was a perfect cure for our 12 hour flight and the spa itself was beautifully designed.

The staff at The Imperial were very welcoming and on our return visit from Rajathan, they greeted us with a "welcome home".

Overall my experience at The Imperial was a special one. The Imperial is a beautiful, historic hotel with wonderful service and Mr. Albert John truly went above and beyond in creating a wonderful trip that I will remember forever.

Superlatives abound when it comes to describing this wonderful hotel.
You do literally feel like you are stepping into a piece of history and the entire experience doesn't disappoint. So stay here if, like me, preserving that history and the sense of what it must have been like to be in Delhi in the 30's adds another dimension to just another night in a hotel.
No contest, it's a wonderfully restored and beautifully serviced hotel in all respects, but a whole other experience lies in the minute details that have been so thoughtfully considered throughout the labyrinth of the hotel, making it a true piece of history and yet still very contemporary and relevant. The Atrium is an essay in Art Deco with the unexpected addition of modern bright orange cushions; the Verandah is everything you expect of a Club Terrace with the vivid addition of peacock blue columns and, amongst the thousands of pictures throughout the hotel, take the time to see the stories told in the nooks, crannies and stairwells... and so it goes on... the orange glassware in the 1911 restaurant, the crest embroidered napkins and duvet covers and the pink towels and Fragonard lotions and potions in the single lady travelers rooms.
The Imperial is a treat and a pleasure and not to be missed. It's a destination within Delhi in its own right...take the time to soak it in.

Room Tip: Delhi in January can be bleak and cold - don't hesitate to as for a portable heater to top up th...
