“Superb ambiance”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Myself with my wife were in transit to Ladakh , hence stayed one night at the hotel.
The location is excellant right in the centre of New Delhi. It is only 5 min walk from Connaught place .
It is a Heritage Hotel built in 1930's but the maintenance is so good that it looks as if is constructed recently.
The courtesy starts from the main Gate itself as every staff is trained to greet the guest with Namaste. My check in was very quick as my room was booked earlier. The lady at the reception personally took me to the room which is rare in other Hotels anywhere in the world.
The Hotels resembles a Palace and has big paintings of Kings and British Raj.
The decor is colonial look and it suit the Hotel very well.
It is the most luxurious Hotel in Delhi and I wold live to be there as and when I am in Delhi.
The Tariff is reasonable and the same kind of Hotel in Europe or US in a city would cost not less than 500 $ as per my experience .

Wished I could have stayed a little longer. Easy living from arrival to departure. The staff worked together well as a team, all very polite and professional. The hotel itself is like a private gallery, entertaining as you walk from A to B. A variety of restaurants are on hand, and a quick step across the corridor is a stately old bar. The room itself was mid-size but very comfortable. Quite a memorable experience.

We lived in The Imperial for 4 weeks whilst trying to find a place to live after having relocated to New Delhi. We chose it because of its location and gardens, which enabled our children to play outside in safety.

Pros:
Breakfast was amazing - huge buffet but with orderable items. It was so good we went back after we moved out.
Staff in the restaurants were excellent and catered to our nut and seed allergy better than we could have expected.
Room was cleaned to a very good standard and staff were mostly unobtrusive.
Doormen were always traditionally dressed and very welcoming.
Taxis were always available - our favourite driver was Jimmy and you can ask for him by name from the doorman.
The hotel was always clean and smelled amazingly nice.
Fresh flowers everywhere.
Free yoga class.
Staff were a great help when we needed medical assistance.
Security guards were efficient and discreet.

Cons:
Room service was cheaper than the restaurant but delivery was inconsistent (mini bar wine cheaper than restaurant).
Our 2 year old got sick after swimming in the pool. This being said, we didn't get sick and she liked to drink the pool.
Rooms over the inner court yard mean you can hear the noise from the court yard often until late.

All in all, we loved out stay here. If we go back to New Delhi, even after having lived in the city for 6 months, this is by far our first choice.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from the Imperial!

I am delighted to note your fine experience at The Imperial and am grateful for your generous description of the same. It is our constant endeavor to match and exceed our guests’ expectations and I am glad that we succeeded in achieving the same. I have noted your additional feedback about the room service and minibar and will look into the same. Also, I am sorry to note about your child’s health and hope that she is fine now. I would like to assure you of the hygiene maintained at the pool and other areas. It is however, not recommended to drink the pool water, which I am sure you agree.

I once again thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. We value your patronage and hope to welcome you back ‘home’ soon.

Best regards,

Complete and utter luxury from the taxi drop off point to the concierge lobby, the swimming pool to the evening bar, from the breakfast restaurant to the rooms. A wonderful retreat from the mayhem that is the city of Delhi. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Delhi. If you can put up with the stuffiness for a few days, treat yourself to this amazing hotel.

The Imperial, a colonial edifice dating to the 1930s, is without the only place to stay in New Delhi which retains a feeling of being in India. All the other 5 Star hotels are International Anonymous. At the Imperial, only steps back in time to a luxurious age. It is without peers in New Delhi. The Taj Heritage hotels strive for the same effect, but they are elsewhere in India.
At the Imperial, besides delicious food, impeccable service and the default decor an astounding collection of 18th and 19th Century prints and paintings, one steps back in time.
Even if doesn't stay there, at least a meal or afternoon tea are mandatory stops for comprehending what pre-global India was. My first visit there was in 1970, and we'll only stay there when in New Delhi. Wifi expensive but good. Food expensive but excellent. Service impeccable.

Room Tip: The Heritage "suites" aren't really suites but have a walk in wardrobe adjoining the b...

The Imperial brings you indeed back to the grandeur of Britain with the mix of India. The hotel is just great and sometimes you have the impression of being in a museum with all the paintings and pieces of art.
The staff is more than pro: always eager to help.
We stayed at the Heritage Rooms overlooking the pool: nice large rooms. Bathrobes, slippers and nice amenities were provided. Choice of newspaper for morning delivery.
The pool is just wonderful after a day of visiting. Try also the Spa and hairdresser: no more jetlag or stress.
We had supper at ' The Spice Route' which we more then recommend: excellent food!!!
If there would be 1 suggestion that we would make: offer free Wi-Fi

The Imperial is one of those places where time seems to have frozen in the Colonial era (although the prices have not). It's vast & luxurious, has all imaginable services, there is staff everywhere to help you with things that you (at least I) normally do myself.
The room was spacious and spotless.
The breakfast buffet is huge and is one of the better I have ever had with both Indian-style as well as european-style breakfast. The pool is very big and beautifully decorated.
All this comes to a price, of course. I was there for business, so company money paid the bill, but if I recall correctly, it was something like 250€+ a night.
