“Quality Hotel with Quality Service”
Reviewed 24 April 2010

Instead of going to any large chain of hotel, for the first time ever I planned to stay at the claridges hotel, though in terms of pricing it is equal to any other star hotel, but was the right decision. And this was a pricey but excellent decision.

We being from Mumbai, and after 26/11 we always see hotels in a different lever now as per their security and we were equally surprised and satisfied when we entered the hotel seeing that all the vehicles were strictly checked. The lobby is not as huge but it’s equally warm and inviting just as the hotel staff right from doorman to porter staff to check in staff. Check in staff were quick to take us to our room.We were served cold towels and drinks in our room guess that was due to higher level of room we booked, but we didn’t ask the reason of being server to us as we were totally enjoying being treated royally. Our room was very spacious with a very very comfortable bed n mark my words on that. Our break fast was server to us in the hotel’s lounge and for the cecond day we got late so the restaurant staff were helpful enough to send us break fast in our room. Food is great almost everywhere in the hotel. The hotel could improve on having free internet and may be a bigger spa

We arrived in Delhi from Jaipur on 20th April. KUONI recommended the Claridges hotel to us.

The first (more about that later) room had a broken mattress in the main bed that meant that my 2 year old daughter rolled off the bed onto the floor. LUCKILY, she was not injured.

The replacement room smelt of an electrical fire but I suspect this was a problem with the air conditioning.

The 3rd room was ok apart from the fact that it was too small for a family and the air conditioning was faulty. The room was set to 18 but my own thermometer stated 26!!!

The following day we were transferred to a nice room on the second floor.

The service from the in-house dining was awful. Salads that looked like they had not been washed and a so-called french dressing that was nothing of the sort. Even though the salad was sent back we were still charged.

Internet access is 700 INR for 24 hours which would be fine apart from the fact that it was SO SLOW! It took 25 minutes for the Hotmail homepage to load up.

The final night we decided to dine at the Darbar restaurant. Awful - the food was cold and smelled like it had gone off. Even though we complained we were still charged.

It took 4 attempts at calling housekeeping before we had bottled water for my daughter to drink within the room.

I then ordered in-room dining - a pasta dish which was expensive but at least safe for my daughter to eat.

We were due to leave the hotel at 9am to catch a flight so I tried to check out at 7am... Firstly, all the bad meals had been left on the bill with no reason. I spoke to the duty manager and politely requested that these be removed. He refused. I then asked to speak to the General Manager - he was not even in the hotel grounds. In desperation I tried to call Kuoni - they were useless. The rep for Kuoni in Delhi tried to fob me off with excuses that he was driving whilst on the phone!

In the end I signed the bill with a disclaimer stating that this was the incorrect amount charged and asked the hotel to send a fax copy of the bill to American Express and to Kuoni.

I have never been so badly treated in a hotel anywhere in the world.

This has been a terrible experience that has put a real downer on our 3 month trip across Asia.

AVOID THE CLARIDGES NEW DELHI AT ALL COSTS.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and although it is very lovely looking it lacked something that we could not put our finger on. The rooms here are average size and decorated nicely although the air conditioning unit was not very good and smelt mouldy when switched on. The shower was fine althought the bathroom was very small. There was a lot of noise throughout the night and you could constantly hear doors slamming and people walking by talking so you dont really get a goodnights sleep. There is a vodka bar in the hotel which is very very expensive. Two vodkas cost around £10 and two cans of diet coke cost us £5. We had breakfast in the morning which was ok, the staff were very attentive. The travel desk were also very helpful as we had to book some last minute internal flights and they took care of this and delivered our tickets to us.
Although the hotel looks really nice, we didnt feel very comfortable here and wouldnt stay again, its somewhat overpriced too.

We arrived here after a manic 8 hour car journey, covered in dust and about to faint. As soon as the gates swung open I thought wow! A doorman in traditional white clothes bowed and greeted us and we entered a cool, plush lobby redolent of sandal wood and polish and with a gentle hum of sitar music. Check was done sat down at huge desks, with very professional staff. Our room was heaven, a huge modern bathroom with fluffy towels, dressing gowns, complimentary water, massive beds, tasteful furniture, enormous TV and a general sense of luxury. Much refreshed we explored a lovely set of shops, some selling souvenirs, another fresh cakes, bread and pastries. We ate and drank at the bakery (not cheap by anyone's standards) and then wondered outside. There are no shops anywhere but the area was generally safe by Delhi standards. The Khan market was a tuk-tuk trip away and not that nice. In the afternoon I dozed by the smallish outdoor pool on a lounger and just enjoyed the luxury of it all. The pool area is a bit small and slightly dated. Alcohol is not served by the pool so I had a watermelon salad. My eyes almost popped out at the size of the bill compared to the quantity but it was very nice. Service a bit on the slow side but then there was no hurry. We ate at the Dhaba restaurant which was nice but service was a bit over the top for my taste and I don't like having my food spooned out for me. I was handed a quality feedback form whilst the waiter stood and watched me fill it in. The couple next to me had their order mixed up completely but ours was fine. Pretty standard UK Indian restaurant food at similar UK prices. Breakfast was out of this world! Fresh cheeses, huge slabs of papaya and water melon, fresh melon juice, eggs of all descriptions, fresh bread and a selection of Indian breakfast foods. I would stay here again like a shot.

The check-in and reception was good and raised our expectations for another pleasant stay in Delhi. The room was OK, just standard and nothing special when compared to other hotels in Delhi at this price.
The lack of service at the hotel was first demonstrated to us when we tried to order lunch and drinks at the pool area. The hotel’s inability to serve its guests was again demonstrated the following day in the garden area, we noticed that several other guests were also treated to the same experience.
The flat TV screen in the room would have been enjoyable if it had worked but despite several requests the hotel was unable to demonstrate it could be used to display a programme. All requests to room service for the mini bar to be replenished were refused as drinks served to the room were charged at twice the mini bar prices.
We will not be staying there again.

We stayed here fo one night on our way out after 4.5 weeks in Rajasthan. The room was blissfully clean and well appointed, with plenty of hot water, and a flatscreen TV, No noise from renovations, other guests, quiet, and in a pleasant area of Delhi. I loved the flowing art deco staircase, and the sumptous rooms with soft beds and lots of feather pillows. My teenage boys still rave about the Claridges - they loved the fitness cente, the tv and huge choice of channels (after many hotels which had no tv or no English language channels), but most of all the buffet lunch and dinner. Having such a choice of western delicacies was definitely THE highlicht of their trip. Service was ok -humorous and friendly at times, a bit puffed up at others, hapless at others (eg when room service had no idea where to put the extra bed for a boy and leave us enought room to be comfortable - I had to show him). Overall, a good choice. Pity the stay was not for longer

Very disappointed. Our room (deluxe room)was on the first floor overlooking the internal lobby. The room was shabby and very noisy due to noise from lobby and service stairs located next to the room. The marble corridors also ensure that all noise is amplified. Looking down on the lobby area there was builders rubble/dust evident above the doors of the shops.
Pool no water.
Breakfast room small, guests directed to another area which was more elegant but instead of buffet ,breakfast had to be ordered from menu. We had no problem with this as the food was nicer and we were not in a hurry but other guests were not happy.
Overall a great location, nice staff but our particular room was terrible. In hindsight as we were there for 3 nights we should have asked to be moved but it is still unacceptable at the prices they charge to class a room where you cannot really open the curtains as a deluxe room.
