“An empty canopy.”
Reviewed 23 May 2013

This empty canopy used to contain the statue of King George V, but the statue was removed when India got its Independence.
Now it's just an empty canopy near the India gate.
You can have a great photo-op and include both the India gate and the canopy at the same shot, as if the canopy is under the gate (which it isn't, of course).
Again, the canopy itself is not particularly interesting, but its combination with the impressive India gate makes a lovely site and a nice 15-minutes visit.

“An Empty Canopy… a nation waits …since 1947!”
Reviewed 13 May 2012

Stand on top of the Raisina Hill in front of the Rastrapathi Bhavan (the President’s Palace) and view the India Gate, and you will see the canopy inside the India Gate… The sheer accuracy of the design across kilometers is so amazing! Edward Lutyens and his amazing design gets this credit!
Till we became independent, King George’s (George V) statue adorned this magnificent canopy. The young Republic awaits this space filled. Bapu’s statue (Gandhiji’s) awaits this august space… though it will be open to interpretation if he is equal to an Imperial Monarch or did he deserve more!!!
A young 65 year old nation awaits…
