“They claim to have the best view in Hauz Khas Village; and they have it!”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

From the moment you enter the busy street of the Hauz Khas Village, you will notice people wearing skull masks to advertise a restaurant. They have a lousy horror story to promote this place. I feel they are extremely inconsistent in their approach. I say this as they are endorsing multiple USPs. And one gets confused; wondering, if all of them are talking about the same place! The horror theme restaurant, the Turkish cuisine restaurant, the restaurant with the best view and I wouldn't be surprised if there are more.

The place is a little more expensive that average places in this area. The menu is a big confusion and the decor is loud and tacky. Yes, I agree that the balcony has the best view in the entire Hauz Khas Village, but the inside seating is dull and poorly lit.

The only reason one might try this place is purely because of confusion!

“good taste”
Reviewed 19 March 2013

Darkened interiors, the better to show off the niches in the walls, Masha does recreate the feel of Istanbul, especially outdoors in the terrace that overlooks the Hauz Khas waterbody. Turkey does have some commonality with the Arab countries in terms of cuisine; what it does not have in common with them is a preponderance of seafood. The subtleties of each dish are different from country to country, which is why it was rather ambitious to have a purely Turkish restaurant: the flavours would have to conform very closely to the original. Happily (and miraculously) they do. Every last restaurant and café in Istanbul has a range of cold starters that are overwhelmingly vegetarian. It’s the same in Masha. The only departures are the familiar fragrance of perfumed hookah smoke (no smoking inside this restaurant) and the myriad varieties of seafood: there’s almost none here.

“Fake Turkish restaurant”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

I think the one thing a bit Turkish about this place is some of the decoration, a mix of modernity and tradition which gives not a bad first impression.
But I doubt if any Turkish national or anybody with one inch of knowledge of this country and of its "culinary culture" have ever been involved in setting up this place. I better imagine some local brats, spinning the globe and pointing randomly to this part of the world, saying : "let's do it !!!"

It's easy to pretend to offer original cuisine, and just hoping that because nobody know it, even if the taste is horrible, peoples will think it's "different" than what they use to.
I like try some new dishes, but even without knowledge of the recipe, I hope to surprised my buds with the play of flavors, but not to feel the need to run to the loo or use the mastic consistency risotto to fill one hole in the wall.....
If you have not enough with mastic "risotto", you can try the mastic "lamb", the oily deep fry "grill fish" who has never met a grill, or the "Lettuce heart salad" without lettuce but full of barely cut raw vegetables.....
No flavors, no good feeling, but still a surprise.....
.... the next day with half of journey on the toilet to let my body eliminate !!!
I can't finish without mentioning the very loud music, the "all kind of things to smoke" spoil atmosphere, and the uninformed waiters ( they don't even know the right name of the dishes they serve).
The over all impression , is that this place have stolen the menu from somewhere else, because none of the dishes, even remotely resemble their description in the menu.

There are so many better place around Hauz Khas Village, just avoid this one and try some others even if they are a bit overpriced.
