Close to the New Delhi railway station end of Deshbandu Gupta Road, this modern and clean hotel - I would rate way above a Travelodge in the UK - provides the opportunity to wind down and relax after the maddening crowds outside. For a budget hotel, this could not be beaten, and being on a main road close to New Delhi railway station, it is quite easy to find with big neon signs vertical on the outside (although they do switch them off overnight).

The hotel staff are courteous and will do all they can to help you, although some may not speak great english and the Indian way is that often someone else joins in to tell the person you are talking to what to do. Just be patient and explain your needs until you are sure they fully understand you - otherwise speak to the manager.

Food in the restaurant is very good and safe for westerners - don't try eating anything from a street vendor. The peanut masala is fantastic as a starter.

The rooms are clean and spacious, with a good strong fan above the double bed that quickly clears away any heat. Wifi available on demand, as well as a nice flat screen tv.

Taxis for sightseeing visits to Agra (Taj Mahal) and further afield are available through the reception. Pay reception your agreed amount - and it's a good rate. If going to Agra, make sure you request the pice for the specific journey. There is a new, fast and hardly-used toll road that takes only between 2 and 2.5 hours, but you don't see much. The cheaper old road, through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh villages, was fascinating but took 5 hours to get there given the congestion and propensity for accidents that meant at times everyone was driving both ways on both sides of the road, amidst the scooters, bikes, rickshaws, tuktuks and pedestrians. Utterly fascinating, maddening, inspiring and sad all at the same time. But everyone in India just honks their horn continually as a normal part of driving - expect a headache. The return journey by the new toll road was well worth it.

Outside the hotel, walk carefully across the road, find an alleyway perpendicular to the road, and immerse yourself in Delhi life for the residents. The numbers, the poverty, the family bonds, and their friendliness is amazing - but watch out for the bikes zooming along the walkways.

Going just slightly further afield (only a couple of miles in reality), a tuktuk from the hotel to the Red Fort in South Delhi costs between 150 and 200 rupees - haggle, there's always another tuktuk driver - and takes about 10-15 minutes. Don't let anyone tell you the Red Fort is closed on certain days, because they just want to take you to a boring find-anywhere in the world handicraft shop and sell you a rug!

Opposite the Rd Fort is the road Chandni Chowk - walk up it and get lost among the residents and vendors and markets. Find fascinating architecture and muslim mosques amongst the Sikh temples and MacDonalds. Vist the Khari Baoli for the spice markets, and wander up little alleyways looking at what the Indians will do for a living, amidst the monkeys and the cows.

And if you do get lost, just flag down a tuktuk and get a lift back to the hotel.

Enjoy Delhi, and enjoy the Hotel City Star.

Room Tip: My room was on the fourth floor facing the DB Gupta Road, with a large window. Excellent, and quiet...

It was an experience combining something very good and something very bad. This hotel is new and the rooms are clean and well furnished. The rooms were definitely the best among the similar rates we stayed during our trip in India. However, the services were terrible! The staff were obviously more interested in talking to each other than attending to the guests. The second day we stayed in this hotel ( we booked a 2-night stay), we were asked to transfer to other property of this hotel because they assigned our rooms to someone else! Our laundry was totally forgotten before we chased in our last night there. Then, at that night, we were awake several times as the staff on duty was trying to figure out where was our laundry. Our laundry was given back to us a couple of minutes before our departure, totally wet! And the hotel charged 200r per piece, several times of the normal price in India.

I went to india for holidays and stayed here. Staff is very friendly and service in hotel was better than five star hotel. Its also next to station which is very easy to travel. Very clean and hygenic. People are very friendly and so impressed with the hotel service and the way this place is made. Its cheap and worth staying. I always reccomend everyone to stay here.

My wife had booked this hotel for us and after seeing how cheap the rate was, I was expecting a shoddy experience. But it was quite the opposite, nice clean rooms, good restaurant on the top floor, friendly staff and located in the heart of the city.

Stayed here for a week while in Delhi on business and was satisfied with my stay. This hotel offers a lot for what you pay. It is obviously one of the newer hotels, and the room was genuinely comfortable and nicely furnished. The luminescent light behind the TV seemed cool and trendy. The staff and restaurant were great, and the waiter named Shiv was particularly excellent at his job. I was a little disappointed that many of the items on the menu were often unavailable - there was no lamb during the entire stay if i recall correctly, but the hot and sour soup was amazing and the food was all appropriately priced. The laundry service and travel desk were very appreciated amenities. The travel desk booked and delivered our train tickets to Agra and Jaipur and some additional activities including a great trip to Sultanpur wildlife sanctuary. The only downside was that our view was literally a back alley garbage dump, but luckily we didn't notice any smell. All in all, I would recommend this hotel for being such a great value. I would generally expect much lower quality and service for the money I paid, even for India.
