What a fantastic little hotel! My friend and I arrived at the airport to find a friendly face holding up my name on a peice of card and he took us to Smyle Inn. It was incredible to see that the people of the hotel had found us as we had fortgotten to put the majority of our flight information on the pick up request email! The hotel is clean with very freindly with helpful staff that could give us as much information as we needed. we had a limited supply of air con in our room (still a luxury though!!) and the breakfast included was lovely. A great start to our adventure in India!

we stayed there for one night. the rooms are very dirty and unlovely. the staff is unfriendly and they dont' want to help you at all! the rooftop restaurant it awful.
they first wanted to charge us two nights even though we stayed there less than 24 hours because we arrived before check in time 12 noon. be careful!
there are many better hotels around in paharaganj!

Dear Customer,

Thanks for taking out time and giving us your candid feedback.

Staff issues are almost ironed out as we have been working on them for about a month now. Had you written to us in a email from our free internet cafe, we would sorted the problem right there and then during your stay itself.

You see when you post a negative comment about us on a public forum like Trip Advisor without actually discussing the problem with us, it does not give us a fair chance to express our take on your grievance.

You have also complained about us wanting to charge you extra money, though you stayed less than 24 hours. If you had only allowed us to explain OR if you had only read about the Booking Poilcy and FAQs on our site, you would not have complained about this. Your stay was actually in a two night window because of the 12 noon checkout time.

I once again re-iterate that we are listening to customers and want to solve your problems, as long as you tell us on our email ID. Leaving a negative comment without giving us a chance is not fair on us.

Hope you enjoy rest of your stay in India.

Regards

I had pre-booked this hotel from England, with airport pick-up. We paid 1400Rupees in total (1000 for the room and 400 for the car).

First off - the airport pick up. We were relieved to see that the driver was there at the airport at midnight when we arrived holding a sign with our name. He drove like a crazy man (we spent a month in India and never had a taxi driver drive so badly!) and when we arrived he demanded a 500rupee tip! We didn't pay him the tip and insisted he just took us to the hotel as we'd already paid the fee. Eventually he showed us down the small dingy alleyway to the hotel (very ominous in the pitch black)...

The staff weren't unfriendly but they definitely made no effort to welcome us, which you think they might knowing that we'd just arrived into the country (and given the name of the hotel!!) The room we stayed in was the one shown on the picture above and on their website. It looks ok in the picture but the room isn't much bigger than the bed so feels a bit like a prison cell. The bathroom had a wooden door onto which the shower water sprayed when it was on so there was an assortment of fungus (actual MUSHROOMS) growing on the back of the door. The A/C worked fine and the bed was ok.

The breakfast included consisted of cornflakes, milk (which smelled bad so we didn't have), 2 small pieces of toast and a sachet of jam and a banana.

The main reason I'd suggest to not stay here is the area that it's in. It's outside of the main tourist area of Paharganj (which we later found on our return to Delhi at the end of our trip - the main bazaar in Paharganj is much more welcoming for a tourist and has many cheap guest houses. We stayed in Anup (/Anoop) guesthouse and it was much better than Smyle and only 800Rs for A/C). Outside Smyle Inn is a network of small alleyways, quite daunting as your first view of India when you're not used to the heat, the hustle-bustle and the noise.

To sum it up - definitely no "Smyles" at Smyle Inn. OK hotel but can find better value, much friendlier guest houses in a nicer area of Delhi so I wouldn't recommend.

Hi,
Thanks for responding to my private message from which I could ascertain your real name and arrival date.

Based on your review of our property following actions have been taken:
1) Driver Behaviour: With the help of the data you provided, we were able to ascertain the driver who went for your pickup. Though his behavaiour was odd and one of the incidents, but anyways, he has been sternly advised against this kind of behaviour. I do hope that in future this does not happen.
2) Bathroom Door: It was noticed some time back and now as I write to you the work has been going on for repairing the doors.
3) Milk: We get our daily supply of milk which is sealed in pasturised pouches, even though it might have smelled, but I am sure that it was fine.
4) Friendlier staff: We keep on trying to motivate our staff, but sometimes lapses do happen. They have been again advised on showing more interest in the customer requirement and have been requested to engage more with the customers.

Hope our response is in line with your expectation.

Best Regards

The staff was friendly and helpful, even though they we're not the best English speakers. The location is good, the rooms we're OK, typical backpackers hotel. But there we're no windows in our rooms, and that was a negative. But there is a rooftop that was nice. It was nice to have breakfast included and the breakfast was also OK. The wi-fi was not the best, sometimes working and sometimes not.

Room Tip: The A/C rooms have windows, and are quite roomier.

We booked this on the internet mainly due to price. In retrospect we should have paid a bit more and gone somewhere else. Firstly, let me lay down a bit of a warning about Paharganj (though I acknowledge that this is not necessarily a fault of the hotel) - it is scary and you get constantly hassled by wannabe scammers and other dodgy characters. This was something we didn't find anywhere else on our tour of India and it was a disappointing start to our travels.

We arrived at the hotel around 4-5am and showed a man our booking confirmation (which stated exactly how much we had left to pay). He showed us to our room, which by Indian standards wasn't too bad. It even had AC, when we had not prebooked an AC room - Nice, we thought, that they had given us an upgrade! Part-way through our stay, the hotel manager asked to see our booking confirmation and enquired as to which room we were in. We obliged and he seemed perfectly happy and friendly. However, this did not stay the same when we went to check out... The same man (manager?) proceeded to demand an extra 600 rupees because of our upgraded AC room, which as we pointed out we had never asked for and he had not mentioned it prior to our checkout. He was rude and aggressive, so my girlfriend muttered "we didn't even use the AC", at which point we sent a staff member to run up to the room and check. We left the correct amount of money on the table and ran to the station - NOT A NICE EXPERIENCE!

The hotel will probably leave a message under this to say that they have no record of us staying (they seem to do this with every negative review). As I want to honestly warn people, I will attach a couple of photographs to prove that we were real guests!

I had the horrible idea to book a couple of nights in this place, and been regretting since... really no idea where to start, from the arrogant staff to the filthy and unsafe building where you cannot lock your door, don't repeat my mistake!

Dear Customer,

From your review I understand that you had two issues:
1) Staff behaviour: It has been noted and we are seriously working on sorting this out. We have been known for good staff, and I am sure that this will be sorted sooner than we think.

2) Doors not locking: It is nothing but a gap in understanding on how the doors lock. There is a button on the inside door handle which when pressed, locks the door from inside. When you turn the handle down, it automatically unlocks, giving a feeling that the door was not locked. But rest assured that when the button is pressed from inside, no one from outside can open the door without the key. The door can only be opened from inside or the key from outside. So this is only a matter of misunderstanding that I am sure is now corrected.

Hope our response is in line with your expectation.

Perfect place for backpackers. The rooms are basic but clean with en-suite bathroom. It is in a good location and price includes breakfast. We thought it was a very reasonable price (not that we really looked at other accommodation in New Delhi).

Room Tip: Rooms in the sister hostel a few doors away are the same price bit slightly better
