“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 28 March 2011

Maya and her mother really made the hostel a great place to stay. They are familiar with the area and very willing to share their knowledge not only about places to eat and things to see, but about customs and anything else you wanted to know about. They were not near the center of town and most of the things tourists would want to visit, but as a very pleasant result, they were in an exceptionally quiet area, which made for a wonderfully peaceful night's sleep. The breakfast is good and although technically they don't serve other meals, if you're lucky (and nice and too tired to go out for dinner one night) they may cook you some Indian specialties to try at suppertime. They are friendly folks you take you into their home as guests.

We arrived a little flustered by the bustle of Delhi around midday. The apartment is in a nice residential enclave in South Delhi; the few steps utterly worth it. Lovely warm welcome and shown straight to our rooms, which were spacious, comfortable and extremely clean - one had an ensuite. Immediately offered water, tea and to accompany Maya and her mother to an Indian wedding that evening(!) The homestay is in a nice calm part of Delhi and we were given detailed instructions how best to reach the places we wanted to visit, as well as brilliant suggestions where to shop and eat. Breakfasts beautifully prepared and tea brought to our rooms on numerous occasions. Unfortunately we stayed only two nights but we would return without hesitation if we visit again and will recommend it to all of our friends. I can't possibly imagine another homestay where you're welcomed into the family so much that you're included into a wedding trip your very first night.

We had such a lovely experience with Asha and Maya at Maya´s Nest. Staying in an Indian home added so much to our trip in India, and was part of the reason we fell in love with the people and culture of India. Asha gave us excellent advice on areas to visit, a few of which were highlights of our trip, but were barely mentioned in our lonely planet guide. Asha was a great resource, and willing to answer our many questions about the Indian culture, religion, food and history that had built up over our time in India.

Asha and Maya are both so welcoming and lovely, and we could not have asked for anything more. We had a double room with an ensuite and a little gallery which was perfect, always well kept and cleaned. Every morning we had a great breakfast made for us, always with eggs (omelette usually), toast, various jams, tea and coffee. And Asha will keep making you toast until she is sure you are full to the brim, so you are guaranteed to start your day on a full tummy. If you want as an extra, you can also eat dinner with Asha and Maya which we would recommend for at least one night, as it´s yummy home cooked Indian food made by Maya.

After the hustle and bustle of the markets and the old town, it was so nice to come back to Mayas nest each evening. And very close by (5-10 minutes walk) there are a couple very modern and really nice shopping malls, which are great if you want to either go out to a resteraunt nearby, or buy a cheaper meal from the foodcourt where just about everything is available. We really felt like Mayas nest was a home away from home. Little things that really make a difference when you are travelling, like Asha would often offer us a cup of tea in the afternoon after a busy day touring, and always had cold water in the fridge that we could help ourselves to, or use to refill our water bottles in the morning.

Tip - The easiest way to get to and from the main city is by the subway, and you will need to pay for a rickshaw to get to the subway station - these are very cheap, but just make sure you know what the price should be in advance so that you don´t get ripped off.

Have a great stay!

Maya was friendly. The room was basic, nothing fancy. The bad thing is that it was very far from Connaught Place. It took us 50 minutes by car or rickhsaw and an hour by metro.

My boyfriend asked for a boiled egg during breakfast. Maya said "I've already made an omelet". She never made the boiled egg.

And for some weird reason she turns off the wi-fi all the time. If you're running a homestay, guesthouse or hotel, I think it's important to leave the wi-fi router on for the guests. They are paying guests who like the convenience of having the wi-fi working all the time.

We've traveled a lot now in India and we've stayed at lots of better homestays than this one.

Thanks for your feedback.

The price is very basic too – much less than others in this area.
What surprises us most is - that you were a walk in – knowing very well our location.
( We checked with you if Vasant Kunj was fine for you? you knew the area.)
You stayed elsewhere earlier and were not happy there and therefore anything was fine!

There are many accommodations in and close to Connaught Place “you” chose to stay here.

Breakfast times are from 730 Am up to 930 Am. We still served you after 130pm - lunch time. You had finished and your boyfriend came thereafter about 2 pm.
We knew that you were working on the internet/WIFI all night therefore the consideration.
As you woke up we switched it on again until you left at 4PM while the check out time is 12noon.

Perhaps there was an electricity failure about 330PM when you left since probably the WIFI got switched off too.

Besides we are an eco-friendly place and do not like to keep electricity on when not in use, while the system "IS SWITCH ON & OFF".

I spent a week in Delhi (2011, March 11-17), and what I needed was a safe place with no bad surprises. This is what Ms Chaudry and her daughter have managed to offer for lonely travellers, women or men, as well as for families. At 5' from the Delhi Subway (station Haus Khaz), there is a home with orange marmalade (home made), porridge, papaya, spice tea, cabbage, dal soup and the likes.
The place is present-day India: confident, clean, open-minded, efficient (each of these to the superlative degree). No vain luxury, but everything is perfect, as you would expect from a country family home. Also, just in case you could be deceived by some daring taxi driver, just tell, and the Landlady would fix this.

This is actually a private home. Our room was clean and spacious, and the price included free wifi and breakfast. The owner, who was only there during the evenings, spoke perfect English. Her staff didn't understand a word. However, they were all very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the stray dogs that barked all night. Good earplugs fixed that problem.

Maya's nest is an excellent place to stay, especially if you want to gain a little more insight into Indian life. Maya and Asha are very helpful: they are always willing to explain how to get to the Metro or which bus you should take, arrange a taxi, bring an extra blanket, or to make another cup of delicious chai.

It is not really a hotel, but it is more like a guest house since you are really staying in their home. There are three bedrooms with a bathroom (shower, sink and normal –western style– toilet) which are all very clean, and have a lot of windows.

Maya’s nest is located in Vasant Kunj. This is a bit far from the city centre (if there is a city centre, really...) but easy to reach by bus. There is a small park nearby, so if you’re looking for a quite place, go there (ask Asha or Maya). There is also a (western) shopping mall nearby (10 min walk), which comes in handy if you arrive late in the afternoon and you still want to eat something, or when you want to watch a movie (very comfortable cinema!).

Hotel The Grand is nearby, but I’m sure that Maya’s nest is way more comfortable and has better service, and above all, and excellent value for money!
