Best hotel of the trip

All photos and reviews here are old, this place has been refurbish with marble floors and walls , flat screen tvs and walk in showers

I've dropped a picture on but unless you go you won't really understand

At £20 a night I would risk my review and thank me later. As this becomes more well known the price will rocket

This is as good as if not better than western standards just remember outside is a different story it is Pahar ganj after all

Although the room was smallish it was comfortable and had a decent shower and pretty quiet. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
The best thing is the closeness to most needs and the Main Bazar is right there on the doorstep.
My only warning is that I got the worse dose of Delhi belly after eating at the roof top restaurant which is a great spot but I for one won't be returning there for a feed!
I would definitely recommend this guest house and return there I will.

Room Tip: I had a ground floor room and it was fine

Well, we decided to spend our last night in India in this hotel as we had read some pretty decent reviews but..we've been asked to pay in advance (for the first time since we had arrived in India 2 weeks before..) and, surprise, hot water was not available..We phoned the reception immediately and they sent for a "mechanic" (to use their own words) who worked for some time on the boiler..and couldn't fix it..again we phoned reception but to no avail..They morning after we complained to the hotel manager who looked quite puzzled (if a little amused..) and proposed no viable solution, nor any sort of compensation..to cut it short: avoid this place, for the same money (1500 rupees per night) you can certainly find a better place, and surely a better service, even in Pahar Ganj

I am a foreigner living in India and stay at the Metropolis whenever I go to Delhi. Yes, the rooms are fairly basic, as other reviews have commented - but it is always an exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful place. Don't be put off by people complaining about the noise and the facilities. The noise is merely typical bazaar action - and dies out as the night progresses. If you have any problems with the room (e.g. broken airconditioning) the hotel fairly quickly organises workers to come in and fix things. The restaurant is brilliant - great tandoori + above average continental food! There is also a fairly extensive range of drinks from the bar service. This hotel has become a home-away-from-home for me over the years - and the management certainly honours client loyalty...

Metropolis has a range of rooms, and the more expensive ones are very nice considering they are in Paharganj. It's a good place to stay if you want the scene of the Main Bazaar without the backpacker slum guesthouse experience. There is a fabulous restaurant on site that has beer, and a rooftop.

Do not stay with Metropolis! We had a room booked at the new building about a block away from the restaurant/tourist home, and the manager even sent us a list of the amenities, including LCD TV, electronic key card, glass shower curtains, along with pictures of the room. We paid for the room ahead of time and everything.

When we got there, we weren't sure where to go so we went to the tourist home/restaurant first on main bazaar and were told that the other building was filled up and we'd be given a room here. At first we thought it was okay because the lobby and restaurant looked pretty good. The room was AWFUL. There were water stains all over the walls, ants everywhere, even a bare footprint stain on the wall. Who knows what has happened in that room? The paint on the walls was also cracking everywhere. (Photos included) The flush for the toilet also didn't work, so we had the results of our toilet use lying in there for a whole night, and there was no hot water at all. Absolutely filthy, and to think they had promised us a very nice looking room!

What made matters worse was that when we asked what had happened to the room we were promised, we heard so many different stories that we had no other option than to believe that none of them were true. Multiple people went on and on about a group of tourists losing their passports and not having anywhere else to stay, about conventions and events in Delhi, etc. Here are the facts: we paid for our room and they gave it away. It doesn't matter why.

Plus, when we asked them how much our disgusting room actually cost, they first said it was also 2000 rupees, which is what we paid for the nicer room. It wasn't until after about 15 minutes of arguing, threats, and phone calls that they admitted that the room was 1500 rupees agreed to give us back 500 rupees. Sorry, but 500 rupees won't buy back my satisfaction.

I'm telling all my friends never to stay here or have anything to do with these people, and you should too.

Place was disgusting! Costs twice as much as anywhere else in the neighbourhood because they are "licensed" but this is utter nonsense. If there were any meaningful criteria for a license, this place would not have one. Hotel was severely bug infested, and this was during the outbreak of Dengue fever. After several requests to have the room cleaned, the bugs just kept coming back. The power also cut out and needed to be reset on average more than once a day. Really after staying here I see no reason why I should come back or why anyone else should stay here. Most of the other rooms I saw there were horribly mouldy and dirtier than mine (which is saying a lot).
