My friend and stayed here for 3 weeks and once you have been in and experienced Delhi you will look back on the experience of this hotel as a safe haven from the stimulus and barrage of the Delhi lifestyle. Once you step through the door there are at least three people to help you with whatever you're needs are, 24 hour room service, currency exchange and most important helping you navigate through Delhi and avoiding the scams of auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers. We made friends with the staff quickly and they all became a very good part of our experience of India.

The area the hotel is in was very poor and run down, it was quite a shock as we had just arrived in Delhi. The hotel was down a lane which was a bit scary, but the hotel was a haven from the outside world. The room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel has a rooftop which had great views of the Red Fort. The staff in the hotel were all very friendly and helpful especially rameez. The food was very nice also, the only complaint was the constant noise in the hotel never got a really good nights sleep.

An oasis in the middle of mayhem.
Great views of the mosque and the red fort from the roof terrace.
Food is vegetarian and very nice.
Despie the No Alcohol notice the staff can get you you a cold Kingfisher which was very welcome at the end of the day.
Note the road outside was closed which meant we had a bit of walk with our bags - the cost of the taxi to airport was expensive - you might want to shop around

Really great hotel, really nice, friendly and helpful people and the location is perfect for Old Dehli which is quite an experience if you haven't been to India before. Definitely worth also to mention Rameez who runs the travel agent right next door. We naively came to Dehli thinking we'd just wander around India spontaneously but at least this time of year and with the commonwealth games happening all of the trains are booked etc. Rameez organized us a really good deal to get around in a rental car with our own driver, really cheap and of course in this chaos here quite useful to have your own transport and someone who won't get killed in a second in the chaotic traffic. Tara Palace and Rameez were really as great piece of luck for us. I think Rameez's travel agency is called Adventure Starts here first. Also the hotel has a great rooftop where you can see the Red Fort and Monkeys and all kinds of interesting things.....Thumbs up!

Summary: one hour drive from airport, no wifi in room, on a grubby street with absolutely no eateries, nothing in vicinity of hotel at night. With agoda, I paid $265 for three nights, included airport pick-up ($20) in an old, shabby car with no air conditioning, and they made me wait an hour for another guest's flight to arrive. Over-priced for this budget traveller facility. IF you've been staying in backback ghetto hotels, or you are an afficiando of 3-star hostelry, you would be very happy with the Tara. Staff service is excellent, on-site restaurant is good. I stayed in room 215 -- a big one. Others are small and without windows. Room was quiet enough, but curtain did not block light. Travel agent at hotel did a good job, fairly priced, but he will book you at hotels similar in quality to the Tara Palace. I was only here because many places full on account of Commonwealth Games. Could have done worse.

If you're going to Delhi and you want a real experience of Indian city culture, go to Old Delhi - wade through the seething sweaty masses and market places. Dodge beggars, pushy vendors, and reckless rickshaws all day in the filthy heat, and then - in the evening - wind your way through the alleys to Hotel Tara Palace - a sanctuary of comfort and cleanliness.

The superb service includes free airport pick-up and 24-hour room service (great vegetarian-only menu). Breakfast is lovely (and free). Any taxi or tour is easily organised by the friendly and knowledgeable hotel reception.

Totally worth double the rates they charge.
