We found the staff to be extremely helpful. I transferred to this hotel from another Delhi location. I called the owner and he graciously arranged for a taxi to pick me up at my hotel to bring me to Shanti. This may not sound like a big deal but in fact my hotel was a bit off the radar and hard to find. And Delhi being the huge city that it is, I was afraid I would not find Shanti on my own. Taxi drivers in Delhi usually need landmarks and directions; simply giving an address does not always do the trick. So it was with great relief that I was picked up and brought straight to their door. I was not even charged for the transfer. The owner is very hands-on which assures excellent service at all levels, be it in the restaurant, reception, or the guard at the gate. Having been to India many times I found the restaurant food to be good but not quite at the top compared to some of the restaurants I have been to in town not geared only to foreigners (to be recommended is the wonderful Spice Route at the Imperial if you are willing to splurge or Karims in Old Delhi for a cheap, very authentic Indian experience. One other factor for those staying in Delhi for sightseeing - Shanti is very close to the metro but far out, meaning the ride into town is about 30 minutes or more. So getting to the main tourist sites is a trek. We stayed here as we were flying out the next day rather early. As the hotel is on the outskirts, traffic to the airport is minimal so one is assured of any easy, stress-free transfer. The driver from Shanti was fantastic, one of the best I have ever had on my many trips to India. In a nutshell, stay at Shanti for attentive service, decent food, clean, nice rooms, but if you are in Delhi for major sightseeing, consider something closer in to town.

We stayed at Shanti Home Hotel in August 2011. The building, restaurant etc are all lovely as said in other reviews. However, what makes this one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in is the quality of the staff. We arrived from KTM with only Nepali rupees on a Sunday before a bank holiday. When we asked about finding an ATM we were told that one of the staff would walk us there after dinner to make sure we didn't get lost. Before we finished dinner though a Nepali member of staff had agreed to trade Indian rupees for our Nepali ones at bank rate. The following day we went to Agra on a tour organised by the hotel and got stuck in an unforseen demonstration, so we missed our flight home. The hotel put us up for free for the extra night, helped us rearrange our flights and arranged for our transfers to/from the airport, again free of charge. Finally upon our return we emailed the hotel and asked for a letter explaining our predicament as evidence for our insurance company to try and recoup some of our costs from the delay - one was sent to me the same day which couldn't have explained things better. The staff couldn't be more helpful if they tried. Excellent stay.

Amidst the crazyness of Janakpur is the peace and quiet of Shanti Home.
Friendly, attentive staff, spotless room, great rooftop restaurant, (one of the best tandoori I have ever had)
The bed was very comfortable, a great change from the hard Ladakhi bed I had been sleeping in for the previous 4 weeks!
Efficient pick up and return to the airport, including a free tiki tour of Delhi.
Thank you Pooja and all your staff.

This is a lovely hotel - comfy and clean rooms and a change from chain hotels. We did have quite a noisy A/C - however it was a must have and better than sweltering in the heat during the night.
We received a warm welcome and plenty of help with use of internet and printing.
The Breakfast was delicious, and the evening meal tasty.
We took advantage of the free massages which were enjoyable but rough - my partner was quite horrified when the gentleman requested he take his boxer shorts off, although I was giggling the other side of the curtain!
The Hotel is not in central Delhi - it is a 40min metro ride away from Connaught Place, although straight-forward to use, the metro can be a hassle - particularly on your first few days in India.
Beware, this hotel did take advantage, first of all their prices were high for monsoon season, we had a better deal which was cheaper at the Hilton Janakpuri on our last night in Delhi and well worth a visit as we were also upgraded to the Executive rooms. Secondly, when we asked about taxi rental / car rental for the day we were initially told that the price would be 1,750 Rs per day which was for 8 hours, and 900 for half a day. This is expensive as many of the popular car companies hire their cars and drivers for 500 Rs per 8 hours. As we were short of time, we requested a car and driver for a half day, however were charged 1,750 Rs and this was for a mere 2 hour and a half journey. We felt that the Hotel had taken full advantage of us, particularly since this was our first stop in India and because of this disappointment we wouldn't return.

Room Tip: Clean and Comfy

After several flight delays, we arrived in Delhi very tired. Our driver from the Shanti Home Hotel was a welcome sight at the airport. We were warmly greeted by the staff upon arrival at the hotel. Refreshments were provided and we were shown to our clean, spacious rooms.
We enjoyed the rooftop restaurant and looked forward to breakfast there every morning.
If we ever go to Delhi again we would stay at this hotel.

We had a few days in this lovely butik hotel on the way back home from Himalayas. It's a great place for exploration of the city, relaxation and enjoying of delicious food. We'll get back soon. Since now it's a must for us to be here once we are in Delhi.
