Review of Kufri

Kufri
Ranked #14 of 87 things to do in Shimla

Visit Kufri only if you do not get good views of the surrounding from your hotel. The place is swarmed with pony owners urging you to park the car and hire the ponies from them. The climb from 8500 odd feet to 11000 plus feet can be challenging due to the stability of the ponies in the narrow slippery paths.

Made it to Kufri by 8:30am and we were the first group to get our horses to go up the hill/mountain. This isn't an activity for those that would prefer to be inside of a shopping mall or urbanites. This is rural and the experience is valued for the experience and scenery. For all of the previous reviews that complain about having to wait, this is India, what do you expect? Patience is a virtue. The people that we encountered at the top of the mountain were friendly and helpful. There is also a amusement park called Kufri Fun Park that has a restaurant inside. I would possible do this again with people that haven't done this activity but once is good enough for the experience.

Fail to understand why so many people have rated it below par.

The place is very nice - especially the area around the zoo. My guess is that a lot of the reviewers never reached the real spot - as there were a lot of points before the zoo where there were horse ride peddlers. The real spot is about a 5 km further up a scenic road where there is a market and sufficient parking.

The zoo is very well managed - main attraction was siting of 4 leopards and black and polar bears.

And near the exit of the zoo there is a tea point and chana wala - both were so tasty that we ordered second round of each.

Then just near the parking is the HPTDC park which has a 5 rupee entry fee and very nice kid rides and open seating - very very quiet and clean. The park has only shops and clean toilets - in old house setting. - reminded me of my trip to mukteshwar.

I have been to kufri both in summers as well as in winters i found it worst touriest place i have ever visited in my life The place is not at all maintained and completely rural and chulish horsemen take you there and the way too is very unsafe and full of mud and dug which is highly irritated so better if you are in shimla you must avoid this place and spend time on places like mall and ridge..

Stay away in summer. Viewpoint is ordinary compared to other places in vicinity. You have no choice but to reach by horse and are at their mercy to bring you back down. We had to wait more than half an hour for ours to come back and collect us.
