Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

I think this is the first time I have visited such a big, cleaned place and amazed to see such a beautiful and organized place. You cannot carry anything inside the zoo plus if you need to carry water bottles they will put a tag and you have to deposit the amount which is refundable during out gate.

Visited this place on a family trip and we were all kids again from the time we entered... The place is just awesome - right from the parking to the ticket counter, the well maintained facilities and walkthroughs... The birds and animals were magnificent and very well managed... Did not feel like they were in cages but truly one with nature... There were certain bird and pond sections which were completely open with no cages at all... What a lovely experience... The zoo has a good restaurant as well... The only improvement would be the wash room facilities...

But hats off to Mysore to maintaining such an awesome zoo and giving tourists a real spectacular experience...

Keep up the good work...

Thank VivPrabhu

This can be counted as one of the best maintained zoo in India. The plastic awareness this zoo created and encourages is amazing.
