Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

The zoo is a great place for kids!!!
The zoo now is revamped and organised with signpost through out the path.
Cafeteria can be improved as it was crowded when we went.
Cleanliness around cafeteria could be better.
Avoid using toilets as stench is unbearable. Cleaning can be done.
It’s a great initiative to install water filters through out the park.

We visited this famous zoo in the morning with my family and I was amazed at the cleanliness that was maintained in the zoo. I felt that captivated animals such as cheetah and leopards need more space to wander in their natural habitat. The snake park was literally sleepy with almost all snakes sleeping.

The Mysore Zoo is one of the oldest and the largest zoos in India. It is only 3 km from Mysore bus stand and just 2 km from the Mysore Palace. The zoo also offers a breath-taking scenic beauty. Mysore Zoo boasts of an amazing and rare variety of flora & fauna. There are big open enclosures for different species of animals & it is very well maintained.

The zoo is open on all days of the week. It is closed on Tuesday. Mysore zoo timings are 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. During weekdays, the entry fee for Mysore zoo is Rs.50 per person for adults and Rs.20 per person for children between the age group of 5 to 12 years. During weekends, (Saturday and Sunday, entrance charges are Rs.60/- for adults and Rs.30/- for children. The charges for the still camera is also negligible, i.e. Rs.20. For carrying a video camera, you need to pay a fee of Rs.150.

Nice and we'll maintained zoo. There is no odour anywhere. Zoo provides battery car ride in the zoo. Which is good to take to avoid long walk. Kids enjoyed the zoo visit very well.
