Been to the restaurant with freinds. The service was tardy. The stewards and Waiters were more interested in the cricket matched played on the TV in the restaurant than the customers. Were waiter were least botthered about the customers...No manager was available for complaint

Dear Friends,

Rooms were very clean. The service was timely and people were very kind and helpful. The hotel is in a very posh place where there are individual beautiful houses. Also it was not far from all the tourist spots. Food was excellent and variety were available. We certainly had a great time and nothing to complain.

Regards,

Visitor

Hotel seems ok, the standard mid level indian hotel. But boy, did i get bitten. First i did not realize how and where I got so chewed up. But even after I reached home (Bangalore) I still got bites. The bugs had gotten into my clothes! For weeks it itched. Since then I have heard from other who have stayed there, bugs and cockroaches in the food. Better to avoid this place, there are plenty of other choices in Mysore.

This budget option isn’t always as good as many people claim.

We got a room infested with bedbugs. From the signs (spots on the mattress and eggs) they had been for a while. We had to change rooms in the middle of the night. We got a stuffy old room with cockroaches this time. When we wanted to leave the next day, they charged us two nights at (the more expensive) rate of the second room. We had stayed only one night, but were unable to meet the checkout deadline as we had to find a new hotel. No way we were staying in this place! The staff was very unhelpful and didn’t seem to care they have a bedbug problem (let alone the cockroaches) or that we were very inconvenienced by the whole thing.

If you still want to go to this place make sure you get a room in the “old” part of the building, these rooms have a little more character and are better maintained than the rooms in the “new” part. The “new” part is located at the back of the building. Our initial (bedbug) room was in the “old” part. Our second (stuffy cockroach) room was in the “new” part.

So considering everything:
A dirty hotel
Unhelpful staff
Overcharged
Overrated

Initially planned to stay at Mayura Hoysala next to train station. They were charging ~1000rs for a single room and all full. I therefore ventured into the town and Daksaprakash got rooms. Frankly this is not the place one falls in love at first sight. I chose it for its location, functionality and price! For just 350rs I got a single with a shower. Less 50rs one got a single with a bucket for bathing instead of shower. Although furnitures and linens were old and stained, they were largely clean although I would use my own towel. A few other travellers I talked to found the place clean enough. There was a strong smell of dettol after they cleaned up the room and let you in.

The place has a charm of old times, and I had fun riding the old elevator using hand-pulled gates. Front desk staff was not the most hospitable type but friendly enough. Though it's large complex and more like a hostel for locals, it;s rather quiet and shut away from noises of surrounding street and Ghandi square/markets. A few travellers just sat on the corridor outside their room reading in the sunshine during the day. Quite peaceful a place.

I didn';t try the attached restaurant. Instead I had breakfast across the road at the rooftop restaurant where they served basic "western" fares like omlette (more like scrambled-egg in pancake shape) and coffee.

Value for money choice in Mysore. The rating takes into account of the price factor and therefore this is not a choice for people looking for more mid/high-range place.

Dont judge a book by it's cover. DasaPrakash may be old-looking from the outside, but it is quite well maintained and comfortable inside. Have been a regular to Mysore and this hotel for the last 15 years. This is easily the best hotel in Mysore in terms of location, service, proximity to the centre of the shopping area, the food and ofcourse the big rooms. There is a nice fruit juice centre outside, opposite Hotel Ashwamedha(where you should try Malligay Idli, which is an over-fluffed form of idli). This fruit juice centre has a speciality called "Sogade Beru in Kannada" or "SarsaParilla in English" with soda. Do try it. The restaurant is located in the same complex and has very good Mysore Masala Dosas.
