My fans would know what I mean when I say Muslim Restaurant, for the uninitiated Muslim Restaurants are characterised by Overuse of Maida, Location, oil/ ghee floating on top of food, THE Gravy (almost used in everything), and certain standard dishes.

While there are probably hundred of Muslim Eateries, spread across certain localities of Bombay, some of the first among equals are Persian Darbar, Zaffer Bhais, Shalimar and offcourse Delhi Darbar.

The ambience here is last century.

The service though is from a category above with lots of helpful staff which know the line between intrusiveness and helpfulness, and the useful portable serving table which really frees up place on the dining tables.

The food here for vegetarians is standard fare, the same generic dishes, all of which pretty much taste the same with only minor differences brought about by ingredients which mainly serve to change the texture and not so much the taste.

I assure you that most people will not be able to tell the difference in a paneer makhani/kadai/palak between any of the above restaurants.

But in the sea of generics comes a blockbuster drug.

The roomali here is illegally good, if it weren't for the completely legal ingredients, im sure the church could have banned it for enticing gluttony.

The egg infused (pure vez beware) goodness is hard to match anywhere in Mumbai (one of the contenders is its namesake zaffer bhais).

The words that come to my mind when I stuff roomali after roomali down my throat is the clichéd "melt in your mouth".

If you love roomalis (and im not talking about the once legendary but now ho hum and egg free ones at copper chimney), then you have to visit this place.

Order any dish and request for the thin gravy, 1+1+1+....roomali and let the games begin.

The rest of the menu is standard fare, the daal is something I have with lots of yummy ghee floating on top.

If your eggetarian and love roomali than this is a place you cannot miss.

If your vegetarian than keep reading my other reviews for further guidance.

Arabian, Mughlai, North Indian, Chinese are on the menu. The best is kulcha with any non veg with a biryani to top. If any space is left then please enjoy a desert. Ambiance is good and Jaffar Bhai takes good care about it. I have visited this first time in 1980 and regular from then on. The take away section is also known for its quick service with good packing, which keeps the food warm for 2 hours.

Ate here due to trip advisor reviews.
Food was good ambience pleasant.....chairs extremely uncomfortable. If you were born with a plank for a back, these chairs may be fine, as the chair backs are perfectly flat and up right.
off the menu:
Tandoori chicken half, R185 Chi Tikka Biryani R265
Coke R70, Diet Coke R70 total: R620 inc tax +tip

Extremely busy at night so book ahead.
We took what we couldn't finish and gave them to someone on the street.
