“Excellent stay, clean rooms, Good staff”
Reviewed 14 May 2012

I was bit skeptical when I read reviews about the run-down state of rooms. But recently, they have updated few rooms and I requested for one of them. The room was excellent, clean, new paint and new furniture. Bathroom was clean. The breakfast was excellent and so was the lunch buffet. The staff was very helpful. The hotel is 2 mins walk from sea face, 10 min cab drive from railway station, 15 min from Gateway of India and about an hour from international airport. There are few opportunities for improvement such as turning off the alarm clock (our alarm clock went off at 3:00AM), hot water problem (which was resolved immediately) and list of phone numbers (desk, room service etc.)

This hotel is affordable and if compared with other hotels in this area provides high value for money.

Plus point is the excellent location and good staff. Negative is the run-down state of the rooms. The rooms need new furniture and carpets. Infact the rooms smell a bit musty too. Once upon a time this property had great food at their revolving restaurant and was very buzzy. Unfortunately it needs a real clean-up now. Hope the owners do wake up as the property still has a great potential.

We stayed at this place for 6 nights.

The location is simply the best. You just walk out of the hotel and get to Marine drive - the best sea facing promenade in India - ideal for those outdoor breaks you look forward to.Walking on marine drive is simply the most refreshing activity you can do.

Breakfast is well laid out although if you stay for 6 nights as we did, it gets repetitive.

The cake shop at the hotel is good and has some good "vegetarian egg-less" as well as the standard options.

Our room was spacious. The carpets looked really in need of some serious cleanup. They were not dirty but looked like they needed replacement and had outlived their useful life.

We had an an issue with our reservations - which was avoidable. Coordination between the staff seemed to be missing. We had asked for our stay to be extended by a day with the person the evening before. He had confirmed the same. However in retrospect it looked like the same had not been communicated to the reservations and as a result we had to check out the next day as they had other bookings.

We stayed here for a family wedding last year. We did have one of the larger suites but it smelled a bit musty. The whole place was once rather grand but is now in need of a major refurbishment. The one thing that helped this place was the excellent service by the staff. There were a few problems during our week long stay such a TV failure, door cards not working, hot water not hot and a couple of others, however once told the staff usually had it fixed in no time.

Room Tip: Ask to inspect the room and check everything works before accepting it. If you like it but its got p...

Stayed there for one night. The location and the past has been the plus point of this place and this hotel would have been one of the best in earlier days - with its revolving restra ( did not revolve now) but can be best desribed as one monument to see and not to experience.
It has age written all over, outside and inside the building, rooms, lifts - and no, it is not translated into the charm what europeans do to their buildings and hotels.
It has good location, very near to business district of nariman point and some best resturants around it - with marine drive just down the stroll - but still, it evaporates due to the pathetic upkeep of the room, and the facilities therein. The rooms are dirty, dingy - barthrooms antiquated, and overall stale smell across the hotels where they use vaporisers to get rid of.
Avoid - for your buck can get you better place in the same amount - and if stuck like me, then at best, come to taste their decent morning breakfast - where the spread is better and the bakery items are the best.
Avoid....

Room Tip: Nothing is good - you have option to face the road or the building next door - which has residences.

I stayed for one night in Ambassador Hotels, Mumbai.
Hotel location is very very good for business visit since Nariman Point is just a short walking distance and there are several good restaurants nearby incl Jazz By The Bay, Gaylord and couple of good Chinese Restaurants.

It is a very basic 1 or 2 star kind of hotel, ordinarily furnished rooms, view from the room's window is not good and buffet breakfast is very basic.
Staff is not cooperative. Taxi in front of hotel ask for more money than the meter charges and hotel's security staff advocates to pay fixed charges that are about double than the meter. I complained to the reception and even tried to contact the Resident GM but he refused to meet saying he was in a meeting. I left my email and phone number but there was not any response.
All in all it is an avoidable hotel though located in very premium location in Churchgate area in Mumbai
