“A pleasant experience”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

I recently stayed in The Caliph with my family (2 kids) for 2-3 days and it was a lovely experience. The staff were very helpful, be it moving my umpteen bags from lobby to room and vice-versa, or helping us with Wifi or printing. The rooms are nice and spacious enough, the aircon works very well and the complimentary Wifi is very welcome. Breakfast is also complimentary and there is enough choice to ensure that all tastes are catered for. I would definitely use this hotel again.

Pros:
Cheapest hotel in Powai, Great in terms of Value for Money.
Spacious rooms.
Food (lunch/dinner): OK. We didn't want to take any risks given the services, hence went for the regular non-exotic stuff. Was decent.
Desk Staff : Courteous and patient.

Cons :
Cleanliness : Terrible. Housekeeping staff indifferent and difficult to reach.
Service : whatever time estimate you get from the staff, just add 45mins-1 hour to it (!!) And don't assume that calling once will suffice.
Breakfast buffet : careful with what you choose. the fruit juice I had was stale.
Amenities: AC cannot be regulated (despite having working controls). If you feel its freezing inside the room, the staff may remind you that you have the choice of not using the AC at all !

Some context: I am an expat on a business trip to Mumbai and have been living in the Caliph (formerly Metro Residency) for 3 months.

These are my objective observations.

Cleanliness: very bad, the housekeeping staff are incompetent. They don't clean thoroughly, just pass a mop on the visible floor not bothering to clean corners where dirt accumulates. I have a literal carpet of dust under my bed.

Laundry: I've had 2 items of clothing ruined, one of them they have not yet returned under the premise that rewashing it may somehow remove the burns sustained.

Service: if you want something, you better ask for it at least 3 times and don't expect it to come within 30 minutes. Example: I was out of toilet paper because they don't bother replacing it unless you remind them to. I asked for 2 rolls of tp, after about 45 minutes I get only one.

Food: the breakfast is adequate as I only eat boiled eggs, but otherwise the restaurant does not smell good. Also, for some reason you can only order food after 7 p.m. If you get hungry at 3 p.m. and don't feel like going out, tough luck.

Summary: Service is bad, cleanliness is bad, laundry is bad.

For business trip or just a weekend out with Family, The Caliph can always be counted. I recently had a very short runing stay at the hotel but the staff ensured that all requests are addressed immediately. I would speacially like to thanks Mr. Akash Mahakali for accomodating my running trip with a pleasant smile. All the best to THE CALIPH..... Cheers!

I stayed for 8 days in metro residency (Caliph Hotel Now) with my colleage. The staff is very co operative and very helpfull, especially Mr. Akash Mahakul and Mr. Priyanshu Baipayee. They always help and give suggestion. However the hotel need some improvement in every single things. The only thing that we felt happr was all employees here were very nice.
