First the good: it's hard to find a place in the tourist area of Mumbai for the prices they offer. 200 for a dorm, 385 for a single room, 660 for a double and about 1000-1500 for air conditioned rooms.
It's clean enough, with common areas being cleaned at least once a day.
The showers are actually pretty great. They are high pressure and have hot water at all hours except about 2-5am.
The regular staff that work here are usually smiling and happy enough, despite their appalling pay and manager.
You can stay for as long as you like, no two week rule like the salvation army place around the corner. No bed bugs either!!
Now the not so great:
This place is really no frills. The dorm room doesn't come with a top sheet or blanket standard, and asking for one you get all sorts of looks. It's seen as them doing you a really big favor.
It takes a 30 rupee taxi or 7 rupee bus and a good 20 minutes to get to a train station to get anywhere else.
The communication between staff is not great to say the least, which results in a whole host of minor problems. The man working behind the checkin desk means well, and is usually right about how much you owe, but somehow his way of saying and phrasing things makes everything seem like an argument. The low pay these guys are on means that 'the customer is always right' is about the furthest thought from their mind.
So staff that work there, good. Man who actually has the final say and collects the money, bad. It's not confidence inspiring, but if you've got to Be in Mumbai for a few days, it's a good base. Just make sure you get them to write you a receipt with the right details on it!!
The dorm room is so big that you usually have at least one person who snores or doesn't know how to talk quietly when 20 other people are asleep. You get an ok nights sleep here at a pretty good price in a pretty good place.
