Ohk, it had been a terrible experience on my part when I came to these so called guest house ( yes Van-Vihar and Jal-Vihar) the staff of which is quite irresponsible towards guests. I booked well-in-advance (quite several months before , perhaps people do not even plan their journey within india so early) , but when I arrived at those guest house at around 10:30pm, they told us that we are kept in the waiting list. I also came to know that a friend of mine who have booked a few days before (not even a month) got a room in that guest house. Then we had to go outside the campus at around 11pm, shops were closed , streets were deserted. Somehow found a auto-rikshaw and we wandered about looking for hotels (essentially we are not people who can throw 20,000 rupees per day), after an hour of search after 12 past, we found just an hotel having only one room available that too for rupees 3500 per day. I don't know what gave me less preference that even a well-in-advance application form was refused over the other. May be he booked the guest house earlier for several times and might be get acquainted with the guest house staff . So what , u can't do an injustice like this refusing us a room that late. They didn't even think it necessary to inform guests about the availibilty so that guests can come preparing to stay at hostel or in such cases ( where it is that late about 11pm) help contacting afforadable hotels/other accomodations. Professors / officials are given preference - no worry ; but why some students are given preference over others. It is clear that the system through which booking is done are non-transparent. No way one can learn if some other applications is given preference based on the fact the guest house folks know them.Transparency should be present there. Availibilty of rooms should be shown up in online interface and that application to be made online using LDAP id and password... That's all , i hope this will help improving the guest house facility there.
