With real estate prices in Mumbai being among the highest, if not the highest in the world, you would expect to fork out several hundred of dollars if you want to stay in the better parts of town. The YMCA is right in the heart of Colaba in a quiet street just off the main road which has all the shopping and popular cafes and bars in the area. It's about two blocks away from the famed Taj Hotel.
The room itself is not anything to be excited about but it has airconditioning and a fan as well as a decent desk and wardrobe. The toilet is clean, although the bottom part of the door wasn't in good shape. There's also no division between the toilet and the shower so expect to get everything wet when you take a shower. The mattress is hard but after about two weeks in India at the point when we got to Mumbai, I hardly noticed anymore. There are no lifts but they have people to help you bring heavy bags up.
Service is great, the front desk person was very informative and helpful. Price is a fraction of what you would pay in other places. Definitely a value for money place that I would recommend for budget travelers.
