“luxurious business hotel”

we ended up staying moving to this hotel after the first hotel that was booked by family members was awful. the intercontinental was in a fantastic location and definite 5 stars. luxurious rooms, although definitely more geared for the business traveler with personal fax etc. in each room. each room had plasma tvs and excellent decor. the water didn't get hot enough but we were happy to at least get a warm shower. continental breakfast was more than we could ask for and you could also order a la carte. the service was amazing. free massage was included per room. the bar has a wonderful view of the queen's necklace. it has plush white couches and great service. this hotel was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.

My wife and I stayed at the Intercontinental Marine Drive for 16 days and I must say that it is the best City centre hotel we have stayed in. Compared to the Taj Palace, the Intercontinental is personal, high quality, has large suites and is away from the rush of tourists. It is a true boutique hotel, expensive at over 400 dollars a night, but worth it if you want to stay for an extended period of time in Mumbai.

This hotel has a lot of things going for it. First of all—the location. It's situated on Marine Drive and is really handy for visiting all the sights. Secondly, the design. The lobby is lofty and hip. Our room was absolutely enormous and had a very chic white marble bathroom. The only thing we had problems with was the technology. There are hi-tech, touch-sensitive light switches, which we didn't get to grips with... and one light all of a sudden popped back on about 20 minutes after we'd gone to bed. The only thing wrong with the room was the view—which was not out onto the sea, but onto a very scruffy apartment building next door.
We enjoyed the breakfast and had a delicious lunch at the Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't stay long enough to take advantage of the bar and pool on the roof, but they looked really cool. The service was on the whole good, but the staff on the front desk definitely could do with stepping up a gear. It took us about 20 minutes to check out and change money... and they seemed a little confused by the whole process. That said, we'd definitely stay here again the next time we're back in Mumbai.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in early January 2007. The room we had booked, a sea facing standard room was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful sea views, and one of the largest standard hotel rooms, I have ever stayed in. The rooftop bar and restaurant were fabulous, as was the rooftop swimming pool.

However, what really made the hotel stand out was the attentiveness of the staff. When we arrived at the hotel we realised we had left some documents on the plane. The duty manager arranged for them to be collected from the airport and returned to us and made no charge for this service. The concierge was also fantastically helpful and was happy to give advice about Mumbai, without trying to sell us the excursions offered by the hotel.

Most impressive of all however, was the help given to us by our driver when the train we were catching to Goa was diverted to depart from another station, rather than Victoria terminus. This meant a hectic car journey to the alternative station, which was several miles away. The driver then carried our (heavy), suitcases into the station found out what platform our train was departing from and then found our carriage for us. This in a chaotic and crowded Indian train station, where we would have struggled without his assistance.

Overall, I could not recommend this hotel too highly.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights back in december. it had a nice lobby, despite being a small hotel, and is well and thoughtfully decorated throughout. The rooms are very large and nicely decorated - not indian - once you close the curtains you could be anywhere. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, helped by the choice of about 10 different types of pillow. The bathroom was a bit strange- not quite to my taste. The seperation from the main room was incomplete - OK for a couple I suppose - but even then...
The gym was way too small and really not user friendly. The really outstanding thing is the swimming pool on the roof of the hotel. In the evening it provides beautiful views of the bay and the queen's necklace.
Would recommend highly.....but it's just not the Taj.

I stayed 3 nights in October at the end of a 4 week tour of Rajasthan. Booked on the Intercontinental web-site so saved myself a significant amount. The airport pick-up was well worth the money, especially as other guests had had taxi drivers who weren't sure where the hotel was. I arrived dusty, with a back-pack and no-one batted an eyelid. Very attentive service - almost too much so - one individual to check me in in my room, one person to give me my welcome drink, another my internet access number and another to discuss my choice of pillow and duvet. Excellent roof-top infinity pool with lovely views - but remember your sun-screen as there's little cover. Sleek, boutique feel. I'm about to go back to Mumbai, this time on business, and would definitely stay here.

  • Liked — Peace and quiet in a bustling city
  • Disliked — The touch lights - totally confusing!

Firstly, South Mumbai, is a revelation in comparison to a lot of the other parts of mumbai. Rickshaws are not allowed which makes a huge difference, less congestion, cleaner air, it was lovely. Marine drive is fantastic, a great place for a stroll, superb at night and loads of lovely restaurants and cofee places a stone throw as well. Oh and a great cinema, the INOX, just passed the air india building as well as the Atrium shopping mall, the ladies will love a shop there called Bling my wife did!

Now the hotel, WOW, customer service, superb!

The lobby smallish, the front desk super helpful, the rooms huge, so gadgety, from the touch sensitive lights, to the entry pen to get in the rooms (dont lose it, you pay 750 rupees to replace it) the electric blinds, the bathroom is all glass but the blinds cover up if you like. The shower is awesome super power shower, the bed is amazing, you can choose different types of duvets, your choice of pillows, aromatherapy oils which got rid of my head ache, excellent TV, very interactive, huge screen, your own DVD player, pringles in the mini bar, internet is ok priced, could be cheaper, but then for the type of hotel it is surprised? Not really...

We got an excellent deal from the intercontinental site, room only, amazingly it worked out cheaper to get room only and pay for your brekie and my 1 transfer seperately since the all in rate was so so much more!

Unanimously this is one of the best hotels that i've ever stayed in, i'd paud a visit to the JW and as grand as that was, it was way to busy in there and the rooms were tiny, the intercontinental blew it away, RULES!!!
