A fine hotel !

The location is some 20 minutes from the airport and this is a review of the hotel, rather than the area.
The area, Powai, is not inspiring. You are located some 20+ km from Colaba, or what I deem to be Bombay.

It's a large complex, gave me a slight feeling of being in luxurious prison compounds, this is simply because it's a gated development and the grounds are large.

I was booked into a club room and check in was swift.
My room was large, bathroom was fantastic - seperate shower and tub. Absolutely fantastic water pressure in the shower.
Large bed, very comfortable with more pillows than I knew what to do with.
Large LCD television, complimentary tea/coffe/water and fruit.

My room was on a high floor of the new wing and overlooked the pool and lake. In terms of view, it was fantastic.

Housekeeping would check in the evening if anything was needed, always a nice touch.

The club lounge was large. Snacks available throughout the day with a limited breakfast and a ' happy hour ' where standard alchoholic drinks were available in the evening.
Complimentary wi fi, for which you need to request a code. The code lasts for 1 hour, you simply ask for another.
Leading off the lounge is an outdoor area for smokers, very comfortable and during the ' cooler ' months, such as February, really pleasant, although no wi fi signal outside.

Everyone in the club lounge was helpful and what I found distinctly different to other establishments in India, no one hovered over you for a tip, it just felt like everyone was just doing their job - and very well too.

I ate in the Italian restaurant one evening which was not bad at all.
I also took breakfast, which can be extremely busy, but the choice is greater than the club lounge and in honesty, despite being busy, I had no complaints in terms of coffee or the egg station.
Absolutely fantastic choice.

I also ate here twice in the evening for their buffet and found both evenings to be almost identical.
A plus here, you can elect to have the alchoholic or soft drink buffet, the first including beer/wine - not much difference between the 2 in terms of pricing. The wine was actually quite good.

The pool is a fair size, with adequate loungers. I passed through the gym a couple of times and whilst I did not use it, seemed fairly well equipped.

Passing through the gym, down a spiral stair case, before you venture out to the pool - enter the gents WC and there is a steam room and jacuzzi for use by hotel guests. Not sure if the same exists in the ladies.

There are Delta, Continental and Lufthansa crew staying at the hotel, this is always a good sign !

I have one gripe :
Despite having a club room, they should include some in room wi fi complimentary. I've experienced this in other hotels in India where wi fi in the room is either free or a set number of free hours per day.

All in all, a very pleasant stay. Many guests appeared to be working in the BPO's, so my guess is the hotel is handy for that. A very good stay and absolutely no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

Having stayed frequently at this hotel for business purposes, I have a perspective that can only be found after nearly 2 months of total time spread across 2 years: there is something about this hotel that is decidedly average.

It's a mix of small things: the fact that the room service tray is positioned facing the wrong direction, house keeping keeps moving my stuff around to new random places, the crappy slippers...

It's a few medium things: the front desk seems to hang up accidentally 50% of the time they pick up the phone, the pillow cases always have a few random stains...

It's a couple big things: getting trapped in the elevator when the power goes out, having the power go out in the room 3 times in 2 days and, having called to ask about it, listening to the front desk tell me that they didn't see any problems and was I sure the power went out? BTW - there are no emergency lights in the elevator - when the power goes out - you'll be sure to know.

All this being said, the place is decidedly above average for the country, it just can't stack up against the standards common to Tokyo and Hong Kong. It lacks refinement and polish. It is, however, relatively clean, quiet and the staff is helpful. It's intended for business not tourism and the location (far from downtown Mumbai) reflects that.

I stayed at the JW Marriott in Juhu for two weeks before moving to this hotel for the remainder of the trip. Although the rates are very similar here at the Renaissance as the Marriott - the Renaissance doesn't even come close to the JW Marriott in terms of quality, service, and location. The service here is not helpful - its annoying. You get a lot of friendly hello's and smiles from the staff but it only takes a couple days to realize they are all completely incompetent and have never been trained on how to do their job. In the morning it consistently takes 20 minutes or more to get a coffee...which as a morning coffee drinker is an irritating way to start my morning. But once I finally have my coffee and am enjoying my breakfast they are pestering me asking me if I want anything else. They just don't get it!! Or the buffet wont have any plates or bowls to put your food onto so you spend 10min standing around waiting for someone to bring you a plate...nobody does it right away..they'll finish setting a table and THEN go get you ONE plate (perhaps bringing a stack of plates would be more efficient use of time? - no wonder they all suck!). Also, don't let anyone convince you the location is good unless your office is in Powai. The location sucks. the JW Marriott as a comparison is right on the beach and in the heart of all the action in Juhu and Bandra. Pay the same amount (for a slightly smaller room) to get a real 5 star experience in Juhu instead of the Renassaince wannabe 5 star experience in the suburbia of Mumbai where staff will only be annoying and useless.

I stayed in this hotel for 8 nights in Mumbai. Wonderful hotel! The service personal are wonderful, hotel transfer as well as the food served in the hotel restaurant were well prepared.

In a busy city like Mumbai, it is really a place you would want to be after work. The pool, gym and spa are just perfect.

An excellent hotel. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. They have a car allocation system (as well as taxi) which is quick and efficient and fairly cheap. The food at the hotel is excellent and caters for European and American tastes as well as providing an authentic taste of India in wanted. The room was very comfortable and bathroom cleaned every day to a high standard. I was also supplied with a newspaper every day even though I had not requested one.

Location, Food, Rooms and Overall I would rate the Renaisaance very very highly. However, in terms of service, they are not up to the mark of a 5 star hotel. eg. TV in room did not work. The phone in the room did not have dialing numbers for the front desk and housekeeping. Also the front desk did not send across people to change my key card, I had to go all the way down to recharge it. However, on the whole the hotel stay was very good, even if it was just for a night. The rooms are good, especially the duplex suite on the 34th floor.

this is one of my favorite hotels in mumbai. amazing location if you want to relax during your stay. unlike all other hotels situated away from the city buzz. you wouldnt believe you are still in Mumbai once you are in your room and enjoy the hotel facilities.

good food, amazing room. and beautiful view of the lake.
most of the conventions are held in this hotel. The marriott is also located alongside and it has rooms meant for longer stay tourist.
