“After many tries, my pick of Mumbai Hotels”
Reviewed 6 January 2013

I have been traveling to India for Business and pleasure and I have to say that it took me some time to find the right hotel in Mumbai. I usually go to more upscale guesthouses, but that was hard to find in Mumbai. Something was always off: location, price, noise. So I tried the Taj Palace, JW Marriott and the Taj and's end (you can read the other two reviews). The Taj Land's end is definitely my pick

Especially for returning travelers to Mumbai (but even for first tomers) Bandra is THE place to stay. Trendy, animated with cosmopolitan Mumbakas, upscale but not out of touch, nice cafés and restaurants (trendy and popular). It really has it all. And in Bandra this was an easy pick. Also a lot closer to the Airport than Bandra, which is important on the way in as most inbound flight land late. BTW, This hotel is in Bandra but a bit out of the way. You can still walk 10-15 min to the interesting parts of Bandra, it's totally safe and easy walk. But the heat might make it painful. So instead take a Tuk Tuk.

Nothing can fault here. The Service was good. I took an upscale room category. Usually I go with the standard, especially in this type of hotel, but this category guaranteed a 6PM Check Out, very convenient when you fly out around 1-2AM. And still less expensive than paying for an extra night.

Pool experience was great. Ate here once and food was good. View from the rooms of the 25th floor were awesome.

Yes, not cheap but worth it. And I do prefer it to the more upscale and more famous sister property. Definitely will come here again when in Mumbai.

Room Tip: Look at the higher category rooms, they allow a late Check Out at 6PM

I have stayed here 4 times in the lat 12 months and my experience was just fantastic. Even by UK standards this hotel is expensive; however it is worth being pampered on once in a while. The first time I went I was given a free upgrade to club level - with free drinks etc?

One negative that I could think of and that is they do not allow two wheeled vehicles to the front entrance. On one occasion I was being dropped off at the hotel at 2am after a night out by my friend on his "motor bike" and the hotel will not allow me to be dropped off at the door when at that time "no" other vehicle was present in sight? Maybe a bit too stiff on rules?

Also the food in the all the hotel restaurants and the bar near the reception is very expensive? If you ask concierge they will direct you to other "good" restaurants nearby for a fraction of the cost. I had asked people to the hotel bar near the reception for a meeting and naturally if they would like any drinks and on one occasion I ordered 3 masala tees; when the bill came they had charged me over £5 each? Also I had invited some guests on one occasion for dinner and the bill was nearly £75 per head - however the food & drinks were not that great to be worthy of such a ransom?

Beware of the Taxi Scam? When you ask the gateman for a taxi - he will announce on the tannoy that a "Local Taxi" is needed - these taxis have an agreement with the hotel workers to give them a "kick back". Instead ask for a "metered taxi" ; be prepared to wait while as they will be reluctant to give you a "local taxi".

Despite all the above i will still keep going there as it is a good place to see Bollywood Stars in addition to having the feeling of pure luxury?

Room Tip: If it is the first time you are booking here it would be wise to take the gamble and book the room t...

Over the past 6 years my Husband and I have stayed at the Lands end atleast 6 times. Just one word - Excellent!
This is my "FAV" Taj property and its just like home away from home.
The rooms are fantastic - be it the suites, club rooms or the luxury rooms. The food is excellent. The buffet spread is great and the sunday brunch spread is just EXCELLENT! Dont miss the breakfast while us taying at the hotel! By far the best ive eaten.
The pool and jacuzzi are good and so are all the restaurants in the hotel - a great choice!
The hotel staff is very nice and attentive and its always a pleasure staying at the hotel!

Room Tip: Go for the club class rooms!

I actually expected a little more for some reason but it is a decent 5 star property half way between the airport and South Mumbai. It is slightly older than it looked in some of the photos that I saw but the service was good, the breakfast was nice. It has some nice gardens and pool area and also a decent sized gym. The rooms had nice pink marble bathrooms, with separate bath and shower. I visited the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in South Mumbai and it looked a slightly better hotel but it is also probably 1.5 hours from the airport so that needs to be considered.

My recent stay at Taj Lands End was exceptional. The hotel was beautiful, well maintained and excellently staffed. The service we received was excellent and always with a smile. The restaurant staff and food was also exceptional. A definite hotel you can enjoy and return a number of times. If you are lucky, you might also spot a bollywood star!

I have been privileged to stay over the years at many nice hotels and resorts in Asia and Europe. However I believe this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at! Strongly recommend the club rooms. The service is unbelievable from the security to the staff in the gym. Everyone has a smile and is ready to go the extra mile.

I think out of the two Taj hotels in Mumbai the palace and Lands end this is the better location. It is a little bit less hectic and definitely quieter.

You won't be disappointed

I stayed here in December 2012 - I was there for 6 nights on business and I really would recommend it. The staff were lovely, very helpful. I didn't really get a chance to sample the pool but from my window it looked great.
The security was higher than I thought it would be but I suppose in light of what has happened at the other Taj hotel its expected.
A great stay though and to be recommended.
