The most I can say about this monument is that you should not visit it during rainy season as the fountain is not even running and there are no plants or flowers around it. It is a very unique statue/fountain, but I would not have known it was the flora fountain other than the fact that it was in the place my map said was the flora fountain. There is really no need to linger as you can take a picture of it as you walk by, but be wary it is in the middle of a very busy traffic circle.

It was an amazing experince to see the wonderful Flora Fountain under the heavy rains. This fountain is surrounded by old heritage buildings, the remniscences of British era.

A poetic expression of Flora:

A Glass and concrete jungle;
In its midst always
Quiet, comely,
With hope filled face,
she stands

These days, It is known as Hutatma Chowk in the official transport book of Mumbai.

This archeological heritage was built in 1864 and a must see attraction for all Mumbai visitors.

“A must visit for those who like the experience of the old world charm”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Well this place has nothing as such except for corporate offices of banks and a few eateries. However if you are person who enjoys heritage then this place is a must. The building are old and have managed to retain their charm. I have always been an advocate of keeping the old building as they are instead of breaking them down to make those with glass and steel. So if you share similar thoughts then I'm sure you would like it too.

“Just a normal fountain in the middle of the traffic.”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Exactly located in the heart of Colaba, this is nothing more than a mediocre fountain, there are millions more beautiful than this around the world, but personally it has a dramatic effect in the context of chaotic urban planning of the city, although it may seem mediocrity, every so glad to run into a sculptural work like this in a city almost devoid of artistic elements.
If can help I suggest to see it during the evening, the lights adorn nicely the fountain.

Reviewed 28 May 2014

Flora Fountain, at the Hutatma Chowk (Martyr's Square), is an ornamentally and exquisitely sculpted architectural heritage monument located at the southern end of the historic Dadabhai Naoroji Road, called the Mile Long Road, at the Fort business district in the heart of South Mumbai, Mumbai, India. Flora Fountain, built in 1864, is a fusion of water, architecture and sculpture, and depicts the Roman goddess Flora. It was built at a total cost of Rs. 47,000, or 9000 pounds sterling, a princely sum in those days.In 1960, to commemorate the martyrdom of the brave people who laid their lives in the turbulent birth of Maharashtra State at the square, it was christened as Hutatma Chowk with an impressive stone statue bearing a pair of torch holding patriots.
