“excellent museum”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

Went to Prince of wales museum recently (21st April 2014).
Kids were excited to see all the galleries.
Best part is in the highly crowded place like Mumbai... you get an ambience which completely defies the hustle bustle of Mumbai.

A must see -

“A peep in to glorious past of India that is Hindustan !”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

The best kept museum in Mumbai, located in central Fort area , This place was initially named by the British as Prince of Wales Museum & subsequently got its present name when the city itself was renamed as Mumbai in 1995 .
Parking is available & the museum charges a nominal admission fees .
The building constructed in the Indo-saracenic style is very well maintained - the construction itself is a delight to the discerning eye.The massive structure is surrounded by palm trees & flower beds .
Don't miss out to take audio-guides available in the reception counter - they are available in Hindi & major European languages .These devices really make the visit interesting as each of the major artifacts on display are numbered & in the audio guide there is the facility for pressing the number - for the description containing the history, significance & special features to flow in .
There are certain novelties not to be missed , which include Emperor Akbar's personal armour including breast plate , Anwar i Suhai the Arabic version of Panchatantra crafted with colourful paintings in Kashmir & the gold coin belonging to Chandragupta of the Maurya dynasty

Must give half a day to this museum , more so if the group contains children or adults who like to get a sense of history & heritage of the place
Yhe museum is closed on Mondays & timings are from 10.15 to 18.00 hours .
I had visited the place with my wife & school going daughter & all three really enjoyed the place & came out feeling happy & energized.

The museum has a decent souvenir shop, with lots to choose from, moderately priced too!

Have a Vada Pao ( a typical Mumbai snack of bread with spice potato fillings ) & hot sweet tea (Chai) in the museum cafeteria after the visit to have a feel of the great city!

“treasure for all ages”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

At the heart of the city ...very close to Gate way of India .. you can not imagine the huge ocean of information, culture, art and knowledge is waiting for you. This museum is well maintained and clean. When you roam here you will realise that India is full of art and creativity. Every other item is unique. Dont miss the ground section of animals, birds and fishes... more fishes then taraporwala but not alive off-course!!
It includes everything sculptures, paintings, crockery, coins.. full day excursion if you have energy and interest to do so.
For NRI must a visit!!
Only -ve point is does not have many options to eat.. very limited food items

“Sculpture Exhibition is very good”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

The museum is housed in a beautiful building, inside and out, its a shame you can't explore the garden at the front a little more. Lots of things to see, and the audio guide is very informative. The Sculpture Exhibition on the ground floor is really enjoyable. I also enjoyed the Miniature painting gallery.

“Better from outside then content”
Reviewed 16 April 2014 via mobile

This is a mediocre museum in a beautiful museum. I am spoiled having visited numerous world class museums which this is not. Some interesting period pieces. The top floor has a collection of art works from the Tata family which are good, but not exceptional. Again I am comparing with other quality facilities.
