We in Mumbai have no dearth of weekend getaways outside of our city, but spending a weekend within the city, and yet getting the feeling of being away from it is what I experienced at The Retreat.

We had negotiated a good weekend package, inclusive of all meals, and it was a very relaxed and enjoyable stay. Right from the time we checked in to our checkout 2 nights later, we felt pampered and totally refreshed at the end of it.

We were welcomed with fresh coconut water and shown up to our room on the fifth floor, which overlooked the pool as well as the beach beyond. Swaying palms, light drizzles and dreamy weather was what our escape was all about.

The Tangerine coffee shop where we had all our buffet meals is set in a nice ambience, overlooking the garden and pool. Food was excellent with a wide variety and a mix of Indian and continental.

Since the located is a bit far from the main city, its good to have your own vehicle. We called for an AC private cab, and that took almost 45 minutes to arrive. So time yourself accordingly before you check out.

Room Tip: Higher floor deluxe rooms or the executive deluxe room which we had stayed in, which was sea facing

Enjoyed my stay at the Retreat. People were very courteous. They found solutions to that problems that we threw at them. Food was very good. Swimming pool is excellent. Rooms were OK. This is an excellent location for having an weekend outing or for a conference.

Room Tip: Take a sea facing room on higher floors.

We went to The Retreat over the weekend of 5/30 because it promised a beach experience close to Bombay without the hassle of travelling to Goa.

We got a good deal through travelguru.com - about 5500 INR for a non-sea facing room with breakfast included.

Pros:
1. The hotel property is nice. The room is well laid out and spacious with a high quality Sony HD TV
2. There are two restaurants - Chinese and Indian, both are very nice
3. The hotel staff was very courteous and willing to do whatever it took to make our stay pleasant
4. Very nice game room with Snooker, Table Tennis, Foosball, Air Hockey etc.

Cons:
1. The smell of drying fish. The hotel is surrounded by fisherman who dry fish all around the hotel. You cannot walk around the hotel premises without smelling it. I eat a LOT of fish, and I could not stand the smell. However, this is seasonal and you should check with the hotel staff before going if you should expect to smell the fish.
2. The swimming pool is gorgeous and large, but the water is salty. Not as salty as sea water, but not regular water either. The water in the bathroom is also of similar quality. We used bottled water for washing our face, brushing etc. - and we are Indians.
3. Morning breakfast that was included was very ordinary

WE all family went to celebrate my brothers birthday. We paid extra amount for each room as it was weekend. But when we entered in lobby it was un bearable Dry fish smell everywhere in room , restaurent and pool area. Swimming pool is like nightmere with full of black layer of algae , crows sheet and dried fish brought by birds. this hotel doesn't deserve even 1 star but fooling peoples with 5 star lable. Please do not get fooled by online photos or marketing tricks . Your home is much more better than this worst experience.

Pathetic arrogant n careless staff.
Only if you complain min 9 times n then go down n create a scene that's when they just might do something.
Nishat Gandhi reservations behaves so arrogant as if this is the only hotel in the country.
You'll need to stay at Aman or maybe just Taj to learn service standards.
Had to fight with them for them to just send fresh napkins, which somehow still did not reach in time.

What are you charging so much for.

Rooms stink n the air Fresheners they send stinks more than the room.
The food taste better at a station, they got a local guy to cook instead of a chef that's what it seemed like.
Funnily there were so many people complaining. They just don't give a dam.

I was in room 515 which happens to be one of their good rooms with the pool view, the basin kept getting clogged.
The room was stinking.
The bed was at a slant.
The napkins were stinky.

The pool side people were complaining since there was no waiter. We waited for 45 minutes n left. The pool in charge was also fed up himself since he had called them so many times and asked for the waiter. He kept apologising since he was felt helpless.

Awesome location but they don't realise there are 2 luxury hotels coming up in the near future.

Only thing good about the hotel is the way it looks from outside. There is no beach, you can't even see it.

Sucks!!!

Huge property with excellent service. However, its a very old property & hence currently its needs a face lift. The pool is not maintained so well
The resort has all the amenities to keep you busy - pool, indoor games room, gym, spa etc.
Good option for a weekend getaway (if it gets renovated soon)
Food taste is good & breakfast is quite lavish.
wonderful place for weddings / functions incase the visitors have their owned vehicles. No chance of auto/taxis
The biggest disadvantage is the dried fish smell which a lot of times gets onto you

Room Tip: Suite rooms on highers floors. Also try & take the rooms facing the sea
