“Improved from previous visit”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

I visited this museum about a year back and reviewed as well here. I visited again this year and was happy to see some improvements they have done. Now audio guide is available for visitors at extra cost (Rs 30 during my visit). This guide is some hifi device which detects signals from the displays and speaks about that. And this clearly was not working up to the mark. I had much difficulty in getting the correct signal and hearing out the speech. It would be good if they can follow the simple number-pad device as found in many other places.
Nothing new was there at the shop, probably they can put the people of Mumbai model replicas for sale.

“A marvelous feat of restoration”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

The erstwhile Victoria & Albert Museum built during the British era and rechristened the Bhau Daji Lad Museum is marvelous. Restored just a few years ago by architect Vikas Dilawar, this museum is a phenomenal effort to bring the focus strongly towards the rich Indian culture and heritage that has been ignored for so many years. They have also set up gallery spaces on the first floor for contemporary art which is ever-changing, and perfectly juxtaposes the historic artifacts that the museum houses. You are allowed to take pictures with your cellphone but no cameras and flash photography is allowed here. Recommend visiting at least once.

“Dr Bau Dadji Lad Museum”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

This museum is a gem ! Its interiors merit a visit, they are exquisite! The museum has been beautifully restored. A job very well done. I would encourage visitors to Mumbai to include this in their sightseeing musts. The exhibits are one of a kind, handcrafted items which we in the world of crafts would love to see revived today. A great experience.
