“Keep Away”
Reviewed 27 November 2011

I happened to visit Mumbai last December and happened to stay in this so called hotel. The rooms on the 2nd floor are like jail barracks with AC which also not give proper cooling. Also the staff charges luxury tax from some customers while exempting from those who were protesting showing their double standards. Also the food served in the rooms is from the restaurant just below the hotel and rates are 1.5 times of that restaurant So just get downstairs and save ur precious money by eating in the restaurant.
A friendly advice STAY AWAY.......OR ELSE BE PREPARED TO SUFFER

The location of the hotel is excellent, it's just opposite the main gate of CST station. Cross the road and you are there. Recepion people are nice and helpful.

Rooms are very small. The room can accomdate only one double bed and there is no movement space. One small drawer is there, and a folding breakfast table is attached to one wall. There is one small fridge in the room but the items kept in it are very costly (Rs. 25 for a water bottle etc.). The hotel is very clean and they maintain the cleanliness. The towels and bedsheets are changed on daily basis.

Good for two persons and those who just need space to sleep at night. Complimentary breakfast contains only two toasted bread and a tea, so dont get fooled by 'Comp BF'. Service is bit slower. They even take 15 mins to bring a jug of water.

Luggage room facility is there, so no problem if you have train at night. Check out time is 12noon.

Booked one room for 3 nights on cleartrip, got 30% discount.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel because it is close to the CST. I would not recommend this place. This is too expensive for what it is: tiny rooms (without window), dirty, mould, no shower inside the badroom but just a bucket. No plug inside the rooms. Only one remote control to manage air-conditioning devices of all the rooms on the same floor. Crazy ! If you are cold during the night, you have to get up , go out of you room and wake up the guard to find the remote and..stop the air-conditionning !!!).
And at the same time: services are not profesional (they enter your room without your permission, they try to lightly touch you if you are a woman, they try to sell you things at a more xpensive price) , also petty staff at the reception.. Better to go at the New Bengal Hotel, not far from the CST.

Room Tip: They are no best room...sorry

The first thing that comes to my mind when i think of city palace is tiny, very tiny rooms, which weren't standard ones, they were deluxe, wonder how small the standard ones were.
Very few services with no special amenities like wifi hotspot or car parking.
But the fare was very reasonable too,and considering the location, that is besides CST it is a good place to stay at if alone, i personally don't recommend staying with family.
The staff was helpful and the room service attended to every call of mine
No breakfast included but the ground floor had a restaurant that served good food.

the BIG plus of this hotel is it is located just opp to the CST Station and very useful for train commuters having short visits as sometimes travelling within Mumbai can be tedious due to traffic. Apart from that there is nothing great to talk about the hotel. Rooms are too small with below average service levels.

First let me set expectations. Mumbai is one of the most expensive places in India so you have to pay a lot more for somewhere acceptable that places like Delhi, about twice as much unless you stay out in the non+Tourist areas like Bandar.

We opted for Hotel City Palace because we could not find anywhere else in Fort area. The reviews really put us off but needs must. I was then pleasantly surprised when we arrived to be met with a friendly welcome. We had booked a R1,350 room but this was no longer available so they gave us a R1,700 room at the same price. The room was really small, more like a cabin, and on the top floor near where the staff work. However, it was very clean, the service efficient and the staff helpful. The room had AC and TV but shared bathroom. Hot water was available most of the time.

Overall I would recommend this place for its perfect location opposite VT Station and in the heart of Fort and easy walking distance to Colaba. You can get a pre paid taxi from the airport for R370 and there is a taxi rank right outside the hotel. Rooms are cleaned daily if you want but those with ensuite do suffer from a bad smell. My tip is take the cheaper rooms with shared bathroom and packs some ear plugs. Its not the nosiest place but remember you are opposite the station so there is constant traffic. I ama light sleeper but was fine with earplugs.

thanks james

Its one of the cheapest hotel in south mumbai. I was travelling with my girlfriend for a family function. The rooms r smaller than a apartment bathroom. The location is around CST station. The staff is pretty rude. I would suggest one would get a lot of better hotels around this area like the railway hotel or harbour view for the same price. They intially denied me a check in saying it was a hotel policy not to let 2 unmarried people stay in a single room. However the same was not applicable to a bunch of foreigners who were also staying there.
