“An Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014

Jaipur is a fairly large, dusty, touristy town, and the Haveli, although a little distance from the centre, feels like an oasis. It has been beautifully restored, and has lovely tranquil gardens in which to relax.

Rooms are a good size and the bathroom was good. Service was excellent, and the food was also very good.

I spent 2 nights there with a couple of friends back in December and when we first pulled up in front of the hotel, we weren't sure what to think. The area seemed to be a little removed from shops and restaurants, just a plain old boulevard but once we crossed the gates, the splendour of the grounds jumped out at us. Wow, the place was beautiful; beautiful lawn, grounds, space and building built over 100 years ago!! Our room was on the ground floor and plenty large for the 3 of us. Good sized bathroom, sitting room which we used quite a bit, lots of room to put your clothes, luggage etc. and a nice comfortable bedroom. Free 24-hr wifi to boot! The hotel's dining room was beautifully decorated, the staff was friendly and the food delicious!! If you choose to go shopping or walking around the old city, an auto-rickshaw ride will cost you around 100 rupees or so. Check this place out, you won't regret it; we certainly didn't!

The hotel looks like nothing from the outside, But past the entry lane its a sight for sore eyes. Lots of greenery and manicured lawns.

Initially the rooms offered to us were a bit small, but comfortable. However, the plus point was that the rooms had open sitting areas in front which was almost private.

The next day, the management was generous in upgrading us to suites as they fell vacant. These rooms were HUGE.

The management and staff are extremely courteous & helpful. They went out of their way to see us comfortable, even though we inconvenienced them a lot.

The food is quite suitable to the Western palate...mildly spiced, but tasty. A German group looked quite happy with their meals.

The highlight of our visit was the Makar Sakranti festival, when the whole city gets on the roofs to fly kites.

Room Tip: The suites are located above the reception area. Go for these rooms even if it stretches your budget...

Looks beautiful though and heritage of the building is nice, It's one of the best maintained havelis in the area. The attitute of the service persons was very humble. it was lovely and spacious with real cosy Indian decor. First night we missed the entertainment as we were not told about it however what we saw from our window looked good! Food was ok, we didn't get to try much as fell ill through the heat. Staff were all very smiley and friendly, especially the manager who got involved with everything & we cot upgraded to Suite. . . . . easy to walk to local shops or atm machines.... or get a tuk tuk which is an experience!

This hotel looks much better than it is. Air con didn't work, heater wouldn't plug into the socket, room dusty, awful water pressure in shower, too much batter on pakoras. Looks beautiful though and heritage of the building is nice. Service not too bad.

The quality of your stay here really depends on which room you are lucky enough to get.

Initially, we were given a double room, and this was so small that you could touch the walls from each side. We were relocated to a twin room - which had one queen bed, and a single. This room was nearly 1.5 times the size of our double room but, as it was near the restaurant, it was very hard to get to sleep, even with earplugs in. Some of our group had rooms that were 3-4 times the size of our double room. The rooms we saw seemed to be riad-style - i.e.: looked inwards, which meant minimal noise pollution from the endless hooting horns on Jaipur's streets. However, it does mean that there are no outside windows to open to gain fresh air. The room had tea and coffee-making facilities too, which was welcome. The marble floors were lovely though, and the room was spotlessly clean. The room also had a TV and a safe. I didn't like the shower as the shower floor was only 0.5 inches lower than the main bathroom floor, so the whole floor got soaked and very slippery every time you took a shower.

The restaurant is good value - at only RS 600 (approx. £6) for 3 courses too.

Room Tip: If you're not happy with your room - ask to see another one first before you move.

This was a real treat for us as we normally have a smaller budget but we loved it and felt so well looked after that it was worth every cent. The lovely Mr Mahendra negotiated a good price for our room, organised a rickshaw day trip and a driver to pick us up from Agra. Good food in the lovely indoor/ outdoor restaurant at fair prices away from the hustle and bustle outside.
