“Really wish I could rate this place better...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

We arrived at Mandawa Haveli very late at night after another hotel we had booked months prior had unfortunately messed up our booking.
The man at the desk was very friendly. He told us that there was only the Rs9000 suite available (for 2 of us), so we booked it for 3 nights, explaining that we may change our booking the next day if we were not happy, even though it was WAY above our budget (the hotel we had booked into was Rs1200/night). We were very tired and really just wanted to go to bed!
We were shown to our suite, which had a lovely old world charm and had a small spa bath (although I found a HUGE cockroach in the bathroom!), but when we realised the wifi did not reach our room, we explained that we might have to go somewhere else, even though we were very tired, because one thing we definitely need whilst travelling is wifi, as we did not have a local sim and needed to contact family etc. Of course, after we threatened to leave all of a sudden other rooms became available. The second room also did not have internet. The third room was much smaller and had no bath, but when I asked the price he said the same as the suite! Then when I hesitated, he suddenly changed that to Rs7500, instead of 9000. We agreed as we were so tired.
The internet was fairly patchy overnight and the aircon did not reach the bathroom...which was VERY hot. We had very sore backs in the morning, so I'm not sure about the mattresses (& I have travelled extensively throughout Asia, so I am not a princess, lol). The next morning when we went down for the buffet breakfast (included in the price) at 9am (we were told the night before that it was from 7-10am) we were told it "is finished" so we could order whatever we wanted from the a la carte menu, which was very basic. We ordered porridge and toast and coffee and when they asked what juice we wanted we said bottled water was fine...then they had the cheek to try to charge us Rs60 for the water!
We decided we'd had enough so we packed our things and went to check out. The man at the desk tried his best to get us to both pay for the water and stay! Needless to say we paid our bill for the one night and left. We felt they were lucky to get the whole Rs7500 as we didn't get the buffet breakfast we were promised.
Although the grounds are beautiful, I could never justify staying there again for the price.
Sorry guys, but you really need to smarten up your act :)

We stayed here for one night and found the experience very strange. After turning up to the hotel we had booked and finding out they had forgotten our reservation we came here very late and the hotel staff were quite accommodating. We were put into a beautiful (but fairly pricey) suite however the wifi did not work in this room. I asked if it could be fixed but it turned out the wifi didn't reach this room. So I asked it we could be moved to another room that was closer to the main part of the hotel. We were told there were no more rooms. However, after telling them that we would have find a new hotel there were many room we could try. We were shown to three different rooms until we found one with wifi. The room we ended up taking was a lot smaller and a little cheaper. It was frustrating that we were put in the most expensive room when we did not ask for a suite and we told it was the only room at the time.

The aircon did not service the entire room and the bathroom was boiling. We also found a cockroach in the bath.

In the morning we went to the 'buffet breakfast'. We were told that the buffet was finished even though we turned up at 9 - an hour before we were told (only the night before) the buffet would still be running. We were instead offered a complimentary breakfast from the menu. However, at the end of the meal we were charged for the water they brought out to the table without asking us - Rs60 for a standard 500mL bottle.

We also didn't see a single other guest the entire time we were there which was odd.

We decided to check out and were pushed into staying. However we left

The only saving grace was that the grounds were quite beautiful.

We stayed here as part of a tour and it was the best hotel. It had good food, organised check-in, helpful staff, good location, wi-fi all over and a clean pool. Our only problem was out air con was leaky and had to sleep on the other end of the bed. At dusk, it's lovely to see the palace in it's full glory.

We stayed at this hotel near the end our trip around the golden triangle. It is very well located right in the centre of Jaipur and is an oasis of calmcompared with the hustle and bustle in the streets outside. The rooms are well furnished and ours was a good size. The breakfast and dinner buffets were good, although could have more good suitable for children. The pool was nice although a little cold. On one of the nights there was an excellent puppet show on the hotel lawn.

At times travelling to an old place is more charming then travelling to a new one! Mandawa is that kind of place for me. I first visited them in 2008 & then again in 2013. It has been wonderful both the times. Hotel is beautiful. It's an old haveli, with all new amenities though! But, that old time charm is very much present everywhere. I love their food! Their pool is so romantic. They have expanded their gardens & increased number of rooms. Each of them exquisitely done. Must try it if you are in Jaipur!!

Lovely well presented hotel with great staff and nice gardens. It's a heritage hotel and so has a really characterful feel. My room was huge, with a four poster and grand marble-esque bathroom, which was a suprise as I was travelling alone. The restaurant is good with an average breakfast but excellent evening buffet (~ 3 courses for £6).There are nice little seating areas outside to relax and read, but steer clear of the swimming pool -full of dead insects and pigeon feathers/faeces... I never saw it cleaned. I also found it hard to leave the hotel alone on foot without being hassled by rickshaw drivers or men who wait outside the entrance. But there is security at the entrance, so it's fine when you're on the grounds.

The Mandawa Haveli is set back from the chaos that is Jaipur streets - you walk through the gate into a beautiful garden, an oasis of calm. The rooms are all different sizes - I had a double bed in a relatively small room but I was in there on my own, some had rooms with 2 four-poster beds plus a chaise-lounge in the window. The rooms are clean and comfy and I think most overlook the pool. The main problem is being woken up very early by the call-to-prayer - not a problem on the second night because I had to be up very early to go to the airport but I wouldn't want to stay there for too many nights because of this. The food is ok, a mix of Chinese/Indian. There is free wi-fi, which sometimes works in the bedrooms as well as the common areas.

Room Tip: The rooms vary in size, solo travellers may get a smaller room but there is more than enough space f...
