We arrived at Mandawa Haveli very late at night after another hotel we had booked months prior had unfortunately messed up our booking.
The man at the desk was very friendly. He told us that there was only the Rs9000 suite available (for 2 of us), so we booked it for 3 nights, explaining that we may change our booking the next day if we were not happy, even though it was WAY above our budget (the hotel we had booked into was Rs1200/night). We were very tired and really just wanted to go to bed!
We were shown to our suite, which had a lovely old world charm and had a small spa bath (although I found a HUGE cockroach in the bathroom!), but when we realised the wifi did not reach our room, we explained that we might have to go somewhere else, even though we were very tired, because one thing we definitely need whilst travelling is wifi, as we did not have a local sim and needed to contact family etc. Of course, after we threatened to leave all of a sudden other rooms became available. The second room also did not have internet. The third room was much smaller and had no bath, but when I asked the price he said the same as the suite! Then when I hesitated, he suddenly changed that to Rs7500, instead of 9000. We agreed as we were so tired.
The internet was fairly patchy overnight and the aircon did not reach the bathroom...which was VERY hot. We had very sore backs in the morning, so I'm not sure about the mattresses (& I have travelled extensively throughout Asia, so I am not a princess, lol). The next morning when we went down for the buffet breakfast (included in the price) at 9am (we were told the night before that it was from 7-10am) we were told it "is finished" so we could order whatever we wanted from the a la carte menu, which was very basic. We ordered porridge and toast and coffee and when they asked what juice we wanted we said bottled water was fine...then they had the cheek to try to charge us Rs60 for the water!
We decided we'd had enough so we packed our things and went to check out. The man at the desk tried his best to get us to both pay for the water and stay! Needless to say we paid our bill for the one night and left. We felt they were lucky to get the whole Rs7500 as we didn't get the buffet breakfast we were promised.
Although the grounds are beautiful, I could never justify staying there again for the price.
Sorry guys, but you really need to smarten up your act :)
