A Heritage Haveli. Absolutely loved it. Right in the Pink City, lovely rooms great service and food. Loved the Pool area. Only downside to our room was low doorways both to our courtyard and also through to our bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask about headroom if you are tall - even average height these days

The hotel is beautiful. Everything is finished to an excellent standard, the room, the hotel courtyard, swimming pool and restaurant are spectacular.

However, we had two vary bad experiences with staff "recommending" places to visit, which unfortunately ruined what could have been a prefect hotel experience.

This is not what we expected from a such a highly rated hotel where we thought we would feel at home and not be mis-led.

Firstly, the hotel concierge who initially greeted us, offered to arrange an "appointment" at a local cooperative selling jewellery, furniture and an associated textiles and carpet store. She assured us this is where the hotel owners purchase items for the hotel and therefore, as a customer of the hotel we would be offered fair prices. We have been to India before and travelled to other countries in Arab Africa and Asia and so, understand the need to barter and weren't not expecting to be offered rock bottom prices from the start. A hotel driver took us to Antiquariat emporium and the prices here were extremely inflated tourist prices. We bought a ring that we then had valued at two sperate jewelers in Jaipur and it was worth a third of the price we paid - we had been mis-led about the quality of diamonds and stone in the ring. We returned it the next day. Then we were taken by the same driver to a textiles and carpet "wholesale" warehouse where the full show of blot printing was laid on for us. Again, when looking to buy the prices of bed throws were double if not more, than what we knew we could get elsewhere in Jaipur whilst we were told this price quoted was "wholesale" and it was rude to ask for discount as we were questioning the honesty of the cooperative. It was nonsense and a ploy to make us buy.

Secondly, we found the Surahbi restaurant on trip advisor, which is near by. We exited the hotel going to catch a rickshaw and the hotel security guard phoned a driver that he "recommended". A young lad arrived in an auto rickshaw and we told him where we wanted go and how much, he replied the Surahbi was no good and would make us ill (we returned the next evening and food was exceptional without any problems) and recommended Niros on MI Road. He then went onto say there would be no charge as he worked for the hotel. We were sceptical but the driver was insistent we wouldn't pay. He picked up his "cousin" and set off for Niros and upon arrival he said actually this was very expensive and if we wanted authentic Indian cuisine for good prices there was somewhere near by at a roof top restaurant. So, without much choice we went there to find this was not a restaurant but what seemed to be a friends run down apartment complete with disco style lighting, open guttering and iPod speakers for entertainment! We left immediately to catch another rickshaw back to the hotel and complained to the reception staff who told us their English is not very good and it was probably a misunderstanding. Their English was excellent even in comparison to some of the hotel staff!

Experiences like this are common place India but we did direct this from within the safety of our hotel, especially that is so exceptional. Stay here with no assumptions.

My third stay here. It is a family -run hotel and the food is good. The buffet service is excellent and the staff are both friendly and attentive. The rooms are spotless and we were enchanted by the block-printed bedlinen along with the handpainted wall decorations. It was a little chilly to use the pool this time but still great to sit beside it at breakfast. The owners arranged an excellent driver to take us on the next stages of our journey. The receptionist helped us to make reservations for our next stops. Nothing was too much trouble.

A peaceful place in the midst of the old city of Jaipur: upon arriving at the Samode Haveli everything becomes quiet. You're welcomed with a drink on the veranda on a patio while check-in takes place. The Samode Haveli used to be the town residence of a royal family( some members still live here) and is now partially hotel. So all rooms are different.
We had 2 great rooms on a private courtyard.
There is a great pool in the garden and the boys also used the gym.
Service is great, food delicious, the dinning room is just gorgeous. You can have your supper on the patio.
As there are many stairs to go to the different rooms, courtyards,… you should tell them when making reservation.
Wi-Fi is free on the veranda; you must pay if you want it in the room.
We were travelling with our 3 boys and I must say that the Samode made us feel comfortable, like being with friends. Staff very attentive. It is amongst the top 3 of the hotels we stayed at during our Rajasthan tour.

This haveli (built in the 19th century as a resort for the royal family) is conveniently located near the center of Jaipur, close to the main renown places of this city (the old city, the City Palace including the Wind Palace and a great ancient observatory) and not far the not-to-be-missed Amber fort. The architecture of the building is quite unique: you will enjoy the surprising rooms, the lovely inside court, the exceptional breakfast and dinner room, the cosy swimming pool and its adjacent spa. With a better quality of service and some renovation, this hotel could deserve a 5th star. Anyway, should you prefer 4-star authentic hotel to 5-star brand new ones, it’s definitely a very good choice.

The hotel is quite close to the City Palace and some of the shopping areas. It is well maintained, the staff is attentive and the in-house restaurant has decent food (if you are too tired to go anywhere else). The only complaint was they wouldn't allow children in the pool w/o parents even if they know swimming.

This centrally-located heritage hotel is a gem. Exceptional grounds - the courtyard is spacious and well appointed with local newspapers on offer and the poolside setup oozes Art Deco glamour. The rooms, while all beautifully decked out with vintage tiles and period pieces, vary from dungeon like to stunning, and it is thus a good idea to ask to see a couple of options before settling.
