“Old world charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

We enjoyed this hotel very much. Eclectic interiors and charm. The decor of the main dining room was full of character and the service at Breakfast was excellent. Our room had very poor door locks and we felt a tad insecure! Enjoyed the gardens and we dined in the garden one evening. There was a fairly average puppet show on adjacent to the dining tables however the inebriated dancing guest (male) kept us all entertained!! The food was standard fare but not memorable.

Room Tip: The rooms opening onto the garden were peaceful.

This was a stunning building with spacious colonial style rooms. The service was excellent with the staff happy to go the extra mile. The food in the restaurant was superb (I love Indian food) and my children eating habits were accommodated very well.

Do take a walk in the grounds but do this without expecting perfection and you will be surprised at the peace and tranquillity. The pool is very nice and well situated.

The spa treatments are to die for.

Why not excellent?
The buffet food served in the gardens was OK but not as good as it could have been and the entertainment at dinner was good but not spectacular and the same every night.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor of the hotel and the rooms opened into a walled court yard with just one...

My friend and I stayed in the large room off the main terrace. An excellent room at a great price. (we heard rooms vary a lot- so poke around) there was a fun buyers and industry buzz there which we liked very much as we where there for tourism, a textile retreat and work. We got comfortable on the grounds and settled in there for 10 days! Monkeys, peaocks, parrots, chipmunks etc all out by the pool. Pretty good breakfast and kind service in the mornings. We felt looked after and charmed by Narain Niwas despite the missing ammenities. For the price and the people I would definitely make this a home base again.

Notes about the hotel:
The girls at the SPA are fantastic! It's a humble little spa, but the Balinese massage there blew us away! So make sure to get one or more!
The wifi works on terrace only. However wifi was not strong enough to work on any computers in the hotel. Only worked on iphones. (note for business travelers)
Despite our ground floor room there was no way to lock the big windows on the ground. Oddly we had locks with us and we locked them ourselves. However we felt safe there and had no problems even leaving our room open when on the grounds but away from our room.
FOOD: we struggled with getting food and cocktails on the main terrace. There's a show every night in the restaurant across the property so once is enough. They are not that comfortable serving cocktails apparently as we tried to get more then one most nights with little luck. They deliver food or a drink and then perhaps retire? Not sure. And one waiter was reluctant to serve my female companion alcohol at all! But if you know going in...the hotel is really sweet. Just have to ask for what you need.

Room Tip: terrace room on front patio is huge and spacious like a suite, with funky linens.

A lovely little oasis in away from the busy streets of the city. Centrally located to most areas of Jaipur. The sprawling grounds are kept quite immaculate, the pool is a great place to cool off in the heat, and the front veranda is a nice place to sip a coffee or cocktail. My only advice for them would be to consider investing in some new mattresses, as they were not the most comfortable ( a little hard on the back).

Room Tip: Had a chance to see many rooms around the building. Room 34 was spacious and bright. Room 202 is up...

Upon arrival in this (so long) grandeur heritage hotel not feeling all to well due to the infamous indian belly, the staff brought me some sweet ginger tea. Lovely. Just as all the colors in the high ceiling rooms and the peacocks in the garden (they didn't keep me up tho!). Although the hotel wasn't as alife as I expected I enjoyed my stay. Breakfast is nothing special, however the area you' re having breakfast in is absolutely stunning. Look around! Also I would not bother eating twice in the garden, with the loud play.

A very impressive hotel built in the late 20's as an opulent family home for a Indian General and which boasts an outdoor pool complete with peacocks, which may keep you awake most of the night. It is pretty as a picture and would recommend as a base. However, i do have to question the hygene of food preperation. was violenty sick after eating some fruit and these were peeled fruit so nothing to do with them being washed in local water which begs the question where else would there be contamination.....

Beautiful hotel and grounds with a wonderful sense of history and charm. The staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal sitting in the garden restaurant watching the in-house entertainment. The room was delightful - clean, comfortable and well equipped. Lovely bathroom with nice hot shower. Our only disappointment was that we'd only booked for one night - would have loved to have stayed longer!
