“Beautiful and atmospheric stay in Jaipur with excellent service”
Reviewed 9 February 2011

This hotel is obviously new and not a truly historic property, of which there are quite a few in and around Jaipur. However, if you are a traveler who genuinely enjoys historic or culturally interesting hotels, I can attest that you will not go wrong staying here. The hotel is really tastefully done and despite the elaborate decor, does not come off as tacky or overwrought in the slightest. It is a charming hotel with a very romantic feel. The service was also absolutely excellent, with very pleasant and accommodating, trustworthy staff. Breakfast buffet was also far above the quality of any other hotel at which we stayed in India. In this price range, you'd be very hard pressed to find someplace better in Jaipur. The hotel's rooftop restaurant is very tasty and charming as well, but was one of the priciest meals we had in India and is obviously priced for western tourists, with very small portions.

When we got to this hotel I was about to give up on India. After the hassling rickshaw drivers, the delhi pollution and some dodgy hotel in Agra, I was very happy to come to Umaid Mahal. The place is a typical very decorated Indian Haveli, but the service is second to none. And the food in the rooftop restaurant is pretty good too. They made us feel at home, and we could finally relax. I highly reccomend this place. Keep up the good work!

Decorated like a hotel of years ago, it had a uniquely Indian charm that made the experience better. From the stunning entrance to the decorations in the hallways and furniture in the rooms, it was very much an Indian experience. Service was good, and close to the train station.

Nasty guys...first they took us to Umaid Bhavan which is their low graded property but when we complained, they said that was a mistake. Then we were told they didn't have enough Royal Delux rooms which we reserved originally, so we ended up getting only one. Last but not the least, we were not given any invoice/bill as we reserved through makemytrip.com Their overall treatment was horrible. Food was average. We will never go there.

Suprising, reasonably priced hotel. Excellent, friendly service from all the staff. The hotel decor has to be seen to be believed and that is in the most positive sense. I will be returningon my next trip.

We ended up spenting close to $200 per night in this so-called 'Budget Hotel' as they padded up thier 'winter package deal' price by adding hefty extras for our 6 year old (even when we refused extra bed as there was no space in the room). What made me livid was the fact that I paid less to stay at a nice B&B located in the prime location (San Marcos square) of Venice, Italy last December (my kids have vivid memories of that place but have already forgotten about this place in less than 2 weeks).

This hotel is located in a non-descript residential locality far away from anything that you might want to see...the views from the hotel include bird-pooped and ditry roof-tops and windows. On the positive side, the rooms have nice decor and the restaurant is nice but expensive.

On our first day, their 'transport manager' wanted us to spend whole day doing 'shopping' (at places where they obviously they get big referral commissions'instead of sight seeing as there was some muslim festival and he was afraid of potential trouble in the old city. He also told us that 'Hawa Mahal' was not really a place to visit...just to drive around (he was wrong..there is not much you can see from outside...you have to spend time inside to appreciate it).
Our 'package price' included dinners and the second day, we had gone out for sight seeing and we ate out as kids were hungry and did not want to wait to come back to hotel...on the day of checkout, I told the owner 'Ran' to give us package dinner as we were taking train to Jodhput at 5:30 PM and our friends had advised us to not take food from train at least for the kids (who live in the U.S.)..but Ran (the owner of this hotel) threw the rule book at us saying that it was out fault that we missed the dinner and hence he could do nothing about it. This coming from a hotel that insisted on cash payment (many places in India insist on cash payment for tax evasion reasons..)!

By the way, I found Jodhpur and Jaisalmer (not too far from Jaipur within state of Rajastan) way more interesting and cleaner compared to Jaipur....Due to its proximity of Delhi, Jaipur is typically on tourist circuit but in my opinion, it is a higly overrated destination..most parts of Jaipur look fithy (apparantly all the tourist money either goes to rich owners of hotels or gobbled up by the corrupt Government officials).

We stayed at a place called Narayan Niwas in Jaisamler which was more like a palace (spread over 5 acres of land with view of the Jaiselmer fort)...with huge rooms and rates that are 1/2 of what we paid at Umaid Bhavan.
