With my daughter away with her grandmother to Bangalore, then it is time for us to check out places. This Friday evening was for a Movie in the night, but we decided that we would go for a dinner and then proceed to the night movie.
As usual we had no choice of where to go and have a nice dinner and we had our own options going on but none to be selected, since we decided that we would need to go a place where we have never gone before. Then i decided without telling to my wife that Burgundy was the restaurant which i am going to take her today. Then immediately i called our good friend Deepa and asked for her help in letting us know if the place is good and yeah she just said that that is the place to be and she helped us in getting a table booked, since she knew the place and frequented.
We started off from our home by about 7.30 PM and reached the restaurant by about 8.00 and when we reached the somerset main gate, the security informed us that they have another entrance where we should go. Hence we took a U turn and then went on to find this entrance for Burgundy. This was not only with the case of us, but most of the first timers to Burgundy would have this issue, since we did not see a clear cut sign board. We drove thru the gates and the usual security checks we done and we left the car for the valet parking.
To reach the restaurant we just need to take about 10 steps from the valet parking thru a small pathway and we see the main door. From outside, the look and feel of the restaurant was fantastic and well lit. There were tables outside(not much but 1 or 2) also where we can sit and relax the evening and order our food, but our choice was to be inside. Hence we just went inside and were assisted by Shiju the restaurant manager. He led us to a table and we were comfortably seated. We were immediately served with water, which was one good thing which we found. This could be a small thing, but to a water starved person, this would be a refresher.
We have both the options there where you can go in for a buffet or you can do a ala carte, we went in for the ala carte. Then we were given a basket of fries which we started to munch on and at the same time, we were assisted by venkatesh with the starters and the mocktails. We did start off with a fresh watermelon and a litchy with lemon and Soda juice and they were good.I specifically requested that no sugar in the watermelon juice and it was perfect. The litchy with lemon and soda juice had some ginger pieces added to it which was really a good touch but it was a little bit disappointing to see lemon seeds in the juice. With this we started to have the started which was a french bagutte with garlic butter 6". This was made to perfection and was a real yum to our taste buds.
Then we decided that we will go in for our main course and then we ordered the cannelloni with roasted pumpkin and calzones filled with red beans, but unfortunately, our specific condition was not to have anything spicy, so we have to drop off the calzones since they are supposed to be mildly spicy. Then without thinking, i just ordered 2 rotis with dhal Makni, the usual stuff. The roties were really nice and soft and the dhal makni was made to perfection. Then came in the cannelloni, the initial bite was awesome and the mushrooms were baked and made to perfection. We loved the food but in one of the bite which i had,i felt that there was a strong presence of raw turmeric. But on the whole the food was fantastic.
We did not do a desert since we did not do a justice to the food served. Hence we said that we would stop here for now and keep the desert for another time, when we can bring in our daughter.
The dining experience, i should say was fantastic, but still i found that there was some chaos in the service. Overall Burgundy is a place where we can have a relaxed time for food and leave the rest to the person who is serving. Good food and smiling people to help and serve you.
