Owner description: This expansive beach is Chennai's most famous tourist attraction, though the undercurrent is too strong for all but the strongest swimmers. Look out for the "Kannagi" statue on Marina Beach, which tells the story of the legendary character from a South Indian epic.

“what a beach!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

great place to be and enjoy the warm waters and also lots of fresh fish to savor and lots of other food to enjoy too. fisher folks can be a lot of fun to converse with, overall it is a very clean but very long beach. lot of interesting places to visit while you are there, price haggling is a must in everything, local lingo is an advantage.

“Marina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

One of the most beautiful beach in the world. Lot of space. People do all sorts of activities. They can enjoy some good snacks. But there is a dearth of parking space for vehicles.

“Marina-Pride of Chennai!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

This is certainly the mark of Chennai, right from the time of Madraspatnam (ancient name for Chennai in 17th century) till date, owing to the historic significance and picturesque landscape adjoining the sea. Marina, a sure-shot tourist spot for any traveler to Chennai houses several important Govt. buildings, Memorials of late Historians & Chief Ministers, Colleges & Chepauk cricket stadium (nearby).. Though the beach is dirty (mainly due to public's lack of civic sense), this is a great hangout place for couples, families, friends & even older audiences and Authorities are working towards making Marina a no-trash zone.

Did you know: "Marina is the World's Second longest urban beach"..

There are separate corridors for joggers, cycling enthusiasts & benches in shades for a quiet/relaxing stare at the ocean. The Newest attraction in this beach is the opening of Marina Light House for public viewing. This is open between 11am-1pm & 3pm-5pm on all days, where public are allowed to go atop the light house (in elevator & stairs till the top) and have a look at the entire stretch of the Beach road and the blue strip of waters. Cool isn't!!

Though swimming/diving in the beach are banned due to sea drift/tides dragging swimmers into the debris of a ship sunk here years back, there are security and police forces keeping close vigil to ensure safety. The beach has good transport connectivity through City buses, MRTS trains (Mass Rapid Transportation Service), pre-paid taxis & autos making it an eye catcher and an amazing place to visit..

This is indeed our pride.. The Pride of South India!

“Good beach to Pass time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

Go if you just want to see the beach and pass time. Nothing great. Be ready to walk a lot before you hit the sea (from road to sea-enjoy a long sand walk). Do not go in the afternoon else you will burn your heels. Go in the evening and do enjoy some bhel-puri or chat there.
