“Executive suite?”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

We stayed three night before flying out of Chennai in an executive suite. It's a good area for shopping. For our budget the price was relatively cheap. We were just looking for a bed essentially. However, the advertised WiFi was non existent but the staff did provide dongles if you use a laptop (we have non 3G iPads, so no Internet). The TV was not subscribed to English channels, so no TV. The shower had the pressure of a dripping tap, so no shower (bucket baths were possible). That said, the bed was comfortable, the staff were friendly and the lane outside was unusually quite (for downtown India) at night. So, overall we were happy enough at the price we paid, but executive it definitely is not.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in May 2013. Even though it was quite difficult to find it we find the hotel quite nice to stay. The rooms were quite spacious and the staff were quite friendly and accommodating. The only setback was that the location of the hotel was at the end of a dark lane and it was quite a challenge to walk especially during the night. There was wifi at the lobby and it was quite fast.

Room Tip: We booked an executive room which was quite spacious

This was our first stop in India, Chennai so we decided to splash out a little at 1300 ruppes a night for a twin room. Not too bad price wise and the room was clean and new looking.

Two beds, clean sheets and covers, lcd TV with great channel choice, cupboard, and bathroom with working shower, though the shower did look a little bit manky so we werent sure if it would work ( it did lol )

We stayed here for 3 nights, the staff were really nice and friendly, it was in a good location, with 2 of the major shopping centres very close by. There wasnt many places to eat though ut we found a restaurant that stayed open till 0130 with a limited menu not too far away!

When we were leaving, the staff arranged a taxi to pick us up and all in all it was a great stay.

We had our door badgered at 10am each morning tho by the staff wanting to clean and no matter how much I shouted I had to eventually get up and open the door and tell them we were happy enough lol, we were still running on UK time!

Each room has AC and a fan which keeps you nice and cold, though the AC unit is very loud...

Wifi is available down in the reception for free along with the use of a computer with internet, thoug if you want Wifi in your room, they charge I think 30 ruppes an hour.... but when we went downstairs at night to use the Wifi, the mosquitos and ants destroyed my legs...

Also, mosquitos kept getting into our room, we have no idea where from but we would wake up with bites and see them flying around...

But apart from this, it was a great stay!

Room Tip: If you choose the 1st floor front facing room you can just about pick up the receptions wifi and use...

Mount Residency is a good budget hotel situated adjacent to mount road in Chennai. It is basically for the budget travellers. I had a pleasant stay for a couple of days in this hotel. The place is slightly inconveniently located. It is next to the LIC building and a lane going inside next to Raheja Towers. Room are newly built and fitted with average furniture and fixtures. Staff is very polite and hospitable. Shinosh, the manager is extremely good and ensures guests do not have any problem. I remember the boy Rajeev who is the member of the staff there, he was extremely nice and good. He got me to the hotel from where the cab driver had left me, though, I had requested Shinosh to send a boy from the hotel.

There is no in-house restaurant, and food ordered in the room will be delivered from outside and will be included in the bill. They offer rooms with and without breakfast. Choose with breakfast coz there are no good places to eat near the hotel. Order food and it will be like home delivery. Also, many foreigners stay here because of the close proximity to the Consulates, and many Indians stay here for the same reason. Hotel smells of fresh paint and many rooms are still being given final touch.

All in all, I had a pleasant stay at Mount Residency Hotel in Chennai. Except for the food bit, which is a bit of a dampener. Also, they arrange taxi and autos for the guests, tell them your preference. It is situated some 16 kilometres from the airport. Good, one hour drive in peak hours and in off peak hours thirty five minutes due to metro and road- relaying work on in full swing.

Go ahead, staying here will not pinch your pockets plus you get fully air conditioned rooms (must in Chennai weather), LCD's, hot water, intercom, toiletries and a home delivery food menu (veg and non veg). I guess food is delivered from a take away joint. For late night drinkers, you do not get ice cubes at night. Lolzz..

Have a happy stay.

Cheers,
Ashish V.

Room Tip: Choose rooms on the second and third floor because there will be less noise and also less mosquitoes...

I booked this hotel based upon reviews other than Trip Advisor for the reasonable price. I found several issues on the "down-side"; wi-fi, as advertised, did not exist while I was there. There was one computer I was able to use off of the tiny lobby area. No common area, no place to sit except for room. You really had to walk a bit to find any restaurants, and there is no restaurant in the hotel. There is a take out menu, but not sure where the food comes from. The room was minimally acceptable, not extremely clean, but not dirty, typical of slightly "shabby" economy hotels.
Front desk staff friendly and helpful, but the guys who clean, except for one, were on the surly side, refusing to acknowledge greetings.
Off of very busy Anna Salai, but fairly quiet. Near Spencer Plaza and 10 minutes walk from an even nice mall, Avenue?
