I could be slightly biased in reviewing this property as the treatment I received on attempting to check in was horrendous! Though it was mainly Cleartrip to blame, the front office lost a chance to earn brownies for a blunder committed by their agents , Cleartrip. However, the reception of Hotel Grand Palace behaved like a Government Organization and lost it. On presenting the Cleartrip confirmed voucher at 6 PM , the front office executive( who was all but courteous) bluntly informed me that they had no reservation. I was instructed by the hotel to speak to cleartrip. After three calls to cleartrip and making the cleartrip executives and the hotel front office speak to each other between 6 PM to 645 PM, the situation had not changed. The hotel was insisting on an e mail from Cleartrip and Cleartrip was working at its own pace. After a lot chasing, the hotel executive Mr. Padmanabhan ( that was his name I think) confirmed that they had received the mail. I had a small relief which soon disappeared when he informed that they did not have rooms to offer that time. I almost blew up. The fact that I had an American colleague with me from our US office made me take all this with a pinch of salt. Mr Padmanabhan reluctantly confirmed that two rooms were getting vacant at 715 PM and we would be accommodated. We decided that having waited enough , it was time to have a drink to relax while the room was readied. The hotel did not have a bar but a typical "permit room" in its basement. While having some beers, I came out to re-confirm the rooms. Now comes another shocker - Mr. Manager says that they have not received the payment from Cleartrip , so the confirmation was still tentative. So, I again call Cleartrip and follow up the hotels payment and make sure that the payment gets remitted.
After all this when one goes into the room, its sub standard for the price they charge. No cofee maker, old stingy rooms, no newspapers noting - just a basic bed, four walls, a ceiling and a a dirty bathroom.
Breakfast was pathetic. Nothing for North Indian travelers or Expats.
Swear never to come back to this "Grand" hotel again!
