“A disappointing stay- opt only if no resort”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

I could be slightly biased in reviewing this property as the treatment I received on attempting to check in was horrendous! Though it was mainly Cleartrip to blame, the front office lost a chance to earn brownies for a blunder committed by their agents , Cleartrip. However, the reception of Hotel Grand Palace behaved like a Government Organization and lost it. On presenting the Cleartrip confirmed voucher at 6 PM , the front office executive( who was all but courteous) bluntly informed me that they had no reservation. I was instructed by the hotel to speak to cleartrip. After three calls to cleartrip and making the cleartrip executives and the hotel front office speak to each other between 6 PM to 645 PM, the situation had not changed. The hotel was insisting on an e mail from Cleartrip and Cleartrip was working at its own pace. After a lot chasing, the hotel executive Mr. Padmanabhan ( that was his name I think) confirmed that they had received the mail. I had a small relief which soon disappeared when he informed that they did not have rooms to offer that time. I almost blew up. The fact that I had an American colleague with me from our US office made me take all this with a pinch of salt. Mr Padmanabhan reluctantly confirmed that two rooms were getting vacant at 715 PM and we would be accommodated. We decided that having waited enough , it was time to have a drink to relax while the room was readied. The hotel did not have a bar but a typical "permit room" in its basement. While having some beers, I came out to re-confirm the rooms. Now comes another shocker - Mr. Manager says that they have not received the payment from Cleartrip , so the confirmation was still tentative. So, I again call Cleartrip and follow up the hotels payment and make sure that the payment gets remitted.
After all this when one goes into the room, its sub standard for the price they charge. No cofee maker, old stingy rooms, no newspapers noting - just a basic bed, four walls, a ceiling and a a dirty bathroom.

Breakfast was pathetic. Nothing for North Indian travelers or Expats.

Swear never to come back to this "Grand" hotel again!

Room Tip: Dont choose this hotel unless you want to choose close to the Airport

Great location (extremely close to Chennai airport), but not maintained properly. Rooms are okay, but smells weirdly, fitted with very old AC's and very poor illumination. Bathrooms are not well kept; About restaurant, very few options in breakfast, dinner is okay, although staff here is good. However, cannot be said same about the staff at reception. Overall, very average option doesn't offer anything without locational advantage and not so great price.
So, save this as an option of last resort.

Room Tip: Big no for family stay.

I flew from Delhi on 20th night to attend an early morning business meeting in the area near SRM university. I asked my office to find a hotel close to the meeting place. They booked this hotel. I gave them my flight details to pick me up from the airport. I landed at international terminal from AI flight and found that the cab was not there. I then called hotel and came to know that guy is at Domestic terminal. So this was the beginning of bad experience. The cab was called to domestic airport and we proceeded to hotel. The approach to the hotel was pretty bad. The room was lousy. The light in the room was not proper. The view from the window was awful. The food was not upto the mark. I asked for the saving cream which was not given. There was no dental kit in the room. The total overall experience was pretty bad. I will not advise anyone to opt for this hotel.

Room Tip: I won't advise anyone to stay in this hotel.

This is the most horrible hotel I have been too where the staff is arrogant and are least aware of what the customer service is all about. I went to have a corporate dinner along with the team and the bar as well as the buffet was of poorest of the quality. Furthermore the attitude of the staff was not at all cooperative and they were treating the customers like they are some kind of bagger in the hotel asking for some food.

We got in to heated argument with the staff at the reception and we were not even allowed to meet the manager despite several demands to call the manager. This happened last night (17th Dec'13 night).

This is the worst hotel one can go to.

Request all the refrain from this sh^t hotel.

Grand palace sucks big time.

Room Tip: Avoid going to this hotel in the first place.

We stayed only for a night, used it as a transit halt for the night due to its proximity with the airport (6-7 kms). Was a decent stay. Nothing noticeably bad or good. One warning to other visitors would be about the railway tracks that are absolutely behind the hotel. Trains keep passing at odd hours, some make a bit of noise, but luckily in our room, with windows, closed, it wasnt very troubling

The Hotel is Located 10 minutes from Airport and is convenient for People who want to visit companies south of Chennai.

It is suitable if you are staying only one or two day maximum. The Food is not tasty and buffet also does not fare good. The Room is Spacious but sleep quality may not be good as the AC controller may not work nor there would be good hot water.

It is not a hotel which you will have good memories, but if looking for a quick stop near airport for one day, it is ok.

Room Tip: Stay if you have tight budget and a short trip

I stayed in Grand Palace twice in 4 months for 2 weeks. My experience was poor second time once i booked second time through cleartrip. The toilet was leaky, the hand bath missing, could only stand in under the shower. The room was close to housekeeping so constant phone bells. I have observed the difference in service if i book online and book directly through hotel.

Most Importantly, this is a strange hotel where they do not follow govt. regulations of providing a free 1 liter of water everyday and on demand iron kit. I brought this to managers at receptions as well. Any one listening?
