The hotel has an excellent view from especially dining room and terrace.
Hotel is away from market area. So those who love to spend leisure time will like this place.
Do not go for the Kanchenjunga view point at 4 in morning because no guarantee of Kanchenjunga view even after spending half hour travel in such a morning time.
From the terrace itself you can see it if the sky gets clear for some time.
Service is poor.

Room Tip: Do not expect buffet breakfast if less rooms are occupied.

we stayed in the hotel in executive room .The room was spacious and has an nice sit out area with Kanchenjunga view and a nice attached bathroom. Quality of food was great . only problem was that of water flow pressure in bathroom but later we came to know that same problem was there in other hotels in near vicinity even being more priced than ours. special thanks to mr D.P.Sarkar for helping me from my first call to him in finalizing my itinerary of Sikkim and Darjeeling tour.

Room Tip: Executive room

The hotel has three category of rooms. We stayed in the top end room – the ‘Executive Room’ as that was the only one available at the time of our booking.
Pros of the hotel :
1. The room was very good – it was quiet spacious , comfortable bed, nice attached bathroom and a great view. There was an attached sitting area with wonderful views of the valley. Apparently one can see Kanchenjunga from the room when the sky is clear . It was cloudy when we were there so we unfortunately couldn’t see the mountain range.
2. The manager – Mr. Sarkar is very friendly and helpful. He advised us on what all to see in Darjeeling and also arranged for taxi for the local sightseeing.
3. Staff is courteous

Cons :
1. There was not enough pressure in the waterflow in the bathroom. So we could not take a shower but had to use buckets. There wasn’t enough hot water as well. Sometimes there was only trickle of water coming from the taps and we had to wait for the hotel to fill up the water tank before we could take a bath. We heard other guests complaining about the water problem too.
2. The breakfast was available only from 8:15am. The dining room was not kept very clean. To us it looked like they were under-staffed. The breakfast buffet had limited choice - one Indian veg dish, toast, canned juice, tea/coffee and eggs to order.
3. Room service was horribly slow – it would take them 1-1.5 hours to fulfill lunch/dinner order.
4. The floor carpets in the hotel corridors were dirty and shabby looking.

Considering the kind of money the hotel charges and the facilities, we would recommend that you find another place to stay.

We Visited Darjeeling on a romantic holiday in mid of Feb'14. The experience with hotel was astonishing. Comfortable, spacious rooms that offer vibrant view of Kanchenjunga from the window and balcony. Prefer the top floor for better experience. Wooden flooring and wooden panelling adds charm of old-world times. Hotel staff are courteous and will help out in resolving all your queries. Restaurant ambience is nice with good quality food but taste needs improvement. Other than the room, there is no other recreational activity in hotel. One can sit in the open lobby or just go upstairs to visit 'The Mall'. Overall experience was good and can be preferred for family outing.

Room Tip: Prefer Rooms on top floor only.

The Retreat is a wonderful property situated at the best possible location with a breathtakingly panoramic view of the Kanchenjungha ranges. Be prepared with a camera that can capture the view! The food and hospitality is great too, as an added attraction.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Kanchenjungha range

The location of the hotel is great and its a walking distance to the Mall Road. Its worth staying in this hotel as it will make you feel at bliss.I think one can get the best view of the snow covered Kanchenjanga from the varandha of the room itself. what can it be better then sipping a cup of Darjeeling tea with the Kanchenjunga range in front of you !
The hotel and its rooms are very spick and span. The foods are very tasty and it has a variety of option to choose from..
The Manager, Mr. D. P. Sarkar is always at his best with a smile in his face and all the staff in this hotel makes you feel like home.
Whenever we visit Darjeeling we always stay in this hotel and its makes you feel coming back again..!!

Room Tip: Stay in the executive room

A hotelier once said that the three most important things about a hotel are - location, accommodation and service. The Retreat manages to excel in all these categories. Location-wise it is near perfect. It is very close to the Governor's House so one can be sure of being in a safe location. It is situated close to the Mall. The stretch of road connecting the hotel to the Mall is closed to cars so it offers a wonderful chance to walk and take in the serene beauty of the hills. The rooms also offer an unobstructed view of the Kanchanjunga without the hassle of having to go to Tiger Hill. The accommodations are nothing short of regal. The service is prompt and the staff courteous and well mannered. The manager Mr. D P Sarkar was always eager to help and arranged for transportation to visit different parts of the city and also advised us as to how we should plan the tour. The Chinese food was tasty but the quantity left a little to be desired. For the bibliophiles, there is a library with a fair amount of books to while away the evenings or one might go to the terrace and sit outside for a cup of warm beverage.
All in all, The Retreat embodies itself as a home away from home and offers and excellent place to stay at while in Darjeeling.

Room Tip: You could opt for room 302 or such similar rooms with a balcony. They offer you the brilliant chance...
