It is not a fancy looking hotel and is barely there with the ambience. But what they lack in style they make up with good service, good food, and going slightly out of the way to make things happen. I am especially glad that they got us a trek set at very short notice. And the food is rather remarkable. Especially the Tibetan bread. But do keep in mind that the rooms are nothing to write home about. Unless wasabi green pillow covers are your thing.

Location was just right. My room was recently updated and very comfortable. The bed in my room provided me the BEST night's sleep in a long time. The staff was also very helpful in suggesting about which place is good and which is nt, even i only ate in the hotel restaurant once but the food was good.
I was able to take walks at night with no worries.
Surrounding restaurants are good and add to the convenience of this esablishment,........

Room Tip: Corner standard rooms are so comfortable

We stayed at Aliment in the beginning of October 2012 and had a fantastic time with "Uncle" and his family and staff. We had not made a reservation but the helpful reception staff found us a good room and made us feel welcome from the moment we got there.

The guesthouse is run by an ex gorkha soldier ("uncle") and his wife and daughter and adorable grand-daughter. Uncle is great to talk to with loads of insights and stories and is really welcoming. We were able to store our bigger backpacks in the family accomodation while we went treking.

There is a great restaurant on site - fabulous Tibetan bread and thukpa!! Note that nowhere in Darjeeling really stays open after 9.00pm so you get used to going to bed early - but that does help you to wake up early so that you can see the amazing views of Kanchenjunga from the guesthouse roof before the clouds come in.

The guesthouse is a good walk uphill from where the jeeps stop so be prepared but its good training if you are treking and after a couple of times you don't even notice it. A torch is handy if you are walking back at night.

Rooms were good - nice big double bed and hot water for a few hours of an evening. They also provide extra blankets as it does get chilly of an evening.

Internet access is available downstairs and the staff are happy to help book treks, buses etc.

All in all a great guesthouse, would return again and recommend to others highly.

We had a long journey flying up from Kochi to Bagdogra and then travelling by Jeep 90km from Bagdogra to Darjeeling.

After staying in Tower View Hotel for one night (not recommended), we moved over to Hotel Aliment and could not have been happier.

The room was exceptionally clean, with spectacular views over Darjeeling and running hot water (evenings only). No central heating but clean towels, sheets and plenty of blankets to keep you snug.

They also have a fairly inexpensive rooftop restaurant with a vast menu and some really scrumptious dishes.

The staff are very polite and helpful, you can book tours with them at reception and they have an internet services but it runs a bit slowly.

All in all a really well run budget hotel in Darjeeling.

After a 4 day train trip from the south of India (varkala) and spending an hour and a half inspecting guest houses in darjeeling, a lomg walk up the hill, and we arrived at the aliment hotel. Nothing to look at, but as soon as we went in, the staff were so friendly we knew this is where we would stay.

10 minutes later and we were checked in. 15 minutes later and we were being served ice cold kingfisher on the rooftop...

although the hot water is timed, and the rooms were pretty cold, the warm service and the views more than made up for it.
Thoroughly reccomended (If you can stand the hill walk to get there!)

Drove up to Darjeeling in an auto rickshaw so we though about finding somewhere easily accessible a mate, in his infinite wisdom chose the first one alphabetically in his guidebook. Arrived at 2pm, the group got split up and the last member of the team made it there around 5pm. Once we got there though we were met with friendly service, large light rooms with great views of the valley bellow. One of the staff/family members offered to wake us up if the weather was good for seeing tiger hill as he wakes at 5am regardless. It wasn't as it turned out but we had friends who woke up and paid for jeep trips etc who were treated to fog and light rainfall at 5am so all good. The road that the Aliment is on is not really suitable for Autorickshaws so we ended up parking by the station.

I first stayed here 12 years ago and when I recently returned to Darjeeling I was very happy to find the Aliment still open and still managed by the same family.

It's a good budget/backpacker option...cheap, clean and well located. The family who own the Aliment are lovely and all the staff work hard to keep their guests happy.

There is internet, an efficient laundry service, good honest travel advice and a lovely roof top restaurant. Hot showers are available between 6 and 8 every evening. You can request an early morning wake up if the mountains are visible in the morning.

If your budget is limited or you are a solo ftraveller wnating to meet other backpackers then I strongly recommend Aliment.
