My 72 year old mom from Germany just HAD TO visit Darjeeling and take that trip on the toy train. Everything was booked to stay the first night in this lodge since we were to arrive by train and then take a taxi to come up. Train was late, I got a phone call from the manager of tourist Lodge...he wanted to confirm our arrival. Two more calls and he had arranged properly for the night guard to take care of us. From there on we relied very much on the help of the manager there and were very well taken care of, upto our transport to the station in Jaipalguri. Although restoration work was going on, the crew had everything under control and didn't let business be disturbed. The lodge has guests coming in and going out around the clock also making good use of the simple restaurant with an superb view and a quite remarkable menu and nothing seems out of hand ever. This friendliness lets you relax, you need the calm before the storm that you face during traffic outside.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher levels have better view over the hills and the trash outside the windows not...

We didn't stay we just came for the food and views. Hard to believe this is a government hotel. Fantastic service, great food and the view was spectacular. Worth the 10 minute walk up the road and surprising for such a small town.

Stayed at this hotel on our way to Darjeeling. Very nice place with silence and less crowd......the rooms are spacious and with all major amenities. It has a nice big restaurant and cozy bar. The staff was good.

Only drawback was the Chinese food at restaurant. The taste and preparation was totally unacceptable. Try Indian food and momo. Momo is nice.

Overall a nice place. Not more to see in town. The narrow gauge train starts from kurseong. One can try it.

Well, for a property owned by the government, this comes across as a surprise. We booked it based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and we weren't disappointed.

The rooms are in the basement and are wooden. The rooms also have a heater. Cozy razai and blanket helped. On request, they provide hot water for drinking.

There's a restaurant attached to the hotel, but it's little overpriced.

Tip: We booked the hotel online via WBTDC site and carried the screenshot in the mobile. When it came to settling bills, they charged us Rs.1500 again, since they didn't have the PNR number of the booking. Finally, they took number and corrected the bill.

Just to avoid any surprises, please carry the printout of the reservation slip.

Room Tip: You can ask for a room with the view of valley

Before I go into the review of the hotel, let me tell you first, Kurseong is a small hill station just 1.30 hours drive from NJP.
There is not much to do in Kurseong only eat, drink and hang out.
The place is ideal for Honeymoon couples. Very peace and calm place.

You can take a toy train and have some wonderful experience going to Ghoom and come back. You can also go to the next station "Tung" 55 minutes from Kurseong. Drop down in Tung, have a walk for an hour, have some snaps and return back to Kurseong either though cab, shared jeep or train.

Kurseong Railway station is 12 minutes walking distance from the Tourist lodge.

Now back to the hotel review -
I like the location. It's not at the heart of the town but 1 km or few more away from the busy crowded Kurseong.

The Reception is awesome and you can see the hills from glass window while you turn back from front desk and look behind.

The reception, restaurant is on the top floor where you enter from the main road.
You have to walk downstairs to get into the room. This is the funniest thing I almost see in most of the hill stations.

All the rooms, I think have some views to the hills. So, nobody will be disappointed.

Rooms are above average size. So, you will have some room to move.
Bathrooms - very well maintained and have all modern amenities. All western style toilet.

The flip side is as the rooms are very near to nature; you will see trees just beside your window, so it is obvious to find some insects in the room. But you have always choice to call the service guys to clean the mess.

No Wi-Fi in the hotel. Tata Photon, MTS, Reliance not working at all. You can get a very slow 2g connection (Vodafone, Ariel) to check your mails.

Quality of food is good. Specially the momos. It's delicious.

Service guys are very responsive and helpful.

Note: I would recommend going to this place in a group. You will enjoy for sure. As there are no such activities there, it sometimes makes you depressed due to such loneliness if you go in couple. But ideal for honeymoon couples.

I wish you all a very pleasant stay in Tourist Lodge and have a memorable journey to Kurseong. If you are a nature lover, you can drop down to "Tung" or "Sonada" and avail home stay. You will be so close to nature, you cannot imagine before.

Thanks guys!
cheers

On a visit to Kurseong Tourist Lodge one cannot but abandon the common perception that Govt. institutions are poorly maintained and run in a non professional manner. The Lodge is well maintained with spacious rooms, common areas, woodwork of immaculate quality, fittings not less than Jaguar, Philips and Crabtree. The view of the valley from the windows is breathtaking. It is the only property in town with its own parking- rather the only place in Kurseong where you can park your vehicle. Room cleanliness was more than satisfactory. Hot water is available round the clock thanks to the geysers fitted in every bathroom. During our three day stay we never had any power issues but candles provided in the rooms did give an indication to the contrary. The best thing about the lodge is the Restaurant which serves mouthwatering Momos, coffee, breakfast and meals for not only inmates but for the hoards of people travelling to or from Darjeeling. Since it is bang on Hill Cart Road which all vehicles need to take, it has a steady stream of customers. The serving staff and even manager go overboard to ensure quick service. We at times found it difficult to identify the manager as he would be in the kitchen helping the staff prepare the meals. The wooden structure of the Restaurant offers a wonderful view of the valley below. ONe can even experience the clouds floating in through the windows. The hot filter coffee and the Bar make the place complete in all respects. I highly appreciate the staff who go that extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay for the weary travellers but never stay back a second expecting a tip. The staff at the front desk also help plan travel itinerary and provide printed literature with necessary details. So far I have experienced WBTDC Lodges at Darjeeling, BIshnupur and Durgapur. Though the latter was found lacking on many counts, the remaining have been above par. While travelling in Bengal WBTDC Lodges are always going to be my first choice.
