We traveled by Motobike, an old Enfield Bullet coming from NJP. We were welcome very friendly, they fund a small closed place for the motobike and a very nice old fashoned room for us. Its seems for us to go back to the beginning of the 20th century, like an old gentelman and an old lady, walking on old wooden floor, observing the tea plantation far in the mist... a magic place. The hotel staff was helpfull and we feel like with friends. An unforgettable moment.

There are three similar Hotels at Chaurasta in Darjeeling on property inherited and three cousins have built their own hotels. All go by the name of Bellevue. The Olde Bellevue and the one called new "Chalet' belongs to one cousin. The olde is a heritage building falling apart. One cousin has built a hotel directly overlooking the Chaurasta and another has built one on the road going down from the Chaurasta but in front of genaries retaurant. My comments are restricted to the Olde and the new called 'Chalet'. The rooms are a good size but unkempt, with cleanliness much to be desired. It is run by a very lethargic administration employing 'Mundus or Chokra Boys' with absolutely no supervision. No indoor catering exists but food can be ordered through a contractor. His method of serving meals is by packing them in aliminium foil. There is no dining room except in the olde Bellevue but this is no longer in use. Since the location is very good and visitors are not seemingly interested in anything else besides rooms being large you find many in one room. Does not cater for those seeking cleanliness, or other facilities that go with a good hotel.

The Old Bellevue radiates with a quaintness and warmth that one is unlikely to find elsewhere in Darjeeling. Though very close to the vibrant Chowrasta square, it is neatly tucked away at a higher altitude, so that the noise from the square does not reach through. This proximity to the main square, whilst being able to be hidden away from the din and blast of daily Darjeeling life is indeed an unbeatable combination.

The fact that the Old Bellevue is perched at a significant height also ensures that the view is fantabulous. Almost every "tourist worthy" location in Darjeeling is within walking distance of the Old Bellevue. The rooms are very clean, reasonably spacious and very very affordable. If you're looking for a peaceful hideaway, Old Bellevue is the place for you.

I landed here in the summer of '08 to get away from metro life, refurbish my rapidly depleting "life" fuel, introspect and do some writing. I did this and much more. While I initially came to stay for just a month, I ended up staying for 4!

Mere words cannot describe what Darjeeling did for my soul--and a large part of my gratitude goes to the Old Bellevue and in particular to the wonderful care and affection that Siddharth and his family showered on me.

I cannot thank them enough: Siddharth, (the owner), his distinguished father, his beautiful wife Nassis, his delightful daughter, Nirvana, his friendly father in law who always had a smile on his face, and his absolutely adorable mother in law, who whipped up the finest delicacies and ensured that I was at peak health, as I wrote extensively, meditated extensively and made peace with myself. I miss Old Bellevue very much.

I am glad I picked this hotel during my 20-day vacation at Darjeeling. We stayed both in the Heritage wing and also the new wing (The Deluxe suite) and both rooms command spectacular views of the hills. The heritage wing commands the best view. The other plus is that it is right at the centre of Darjeeling. The rooms were affordable, spacious, clean and well-furnished. We can walk to most of the tourist spots, or can easily hire a taxi (we highly recommend the driver employed by the hotel who is an exception to the reckless mountain driving; he drives slowly and carefully so the tourists can take in the views leisurely). The biggest plus was the friendly and co-operative hotel staff. We highly recommend this hotel.

We visited Darjeeling in the summer of 2008 and stayed at the Olde (Main) Bellevue Heritage Hotel (this is indeed the accurate title, just in case it is mistaken for its similar sounding cousins!) run by Siddhartha and his family. Though I had approached my stay with some trepidation due to the close proximity of the hotel to the mall and a rather cliche name, this hotel dispelled my notions and made a qualitative difference to my holiday. Run by an aristrocratic Buddhist family, the hotel is perched above the main local bazaar with astonishing views of the Darjeeling valley. The mornings come with the mist as the clouds descend upon the valley and traverse through the hotel on their way. The staff punctually bring tea to your room and there begins your day. Just out of the hotel and a short walk, enough to keep the noise away, you are at main square of Darjeeling. Dotted with shops selling tea in its most exotic flavours, this bazaar makes a wondrously cozy experience, so typical to what one would wish from Darjeeling. And yes of course, the local bookstore with their collection of uniquely Indian books definitely supplements the tea experience.

Paneled with wood and large views of the valley, our room had quite a mountainous touch to it, reminiscent of the Raj. Lamps, which could be out of a book by Dickens, dote the rooms and provide for a smooth evening setting. The staff seem courteous and welcoming and eager to assist for local guidance.

The hotel does not really provide in-house dining, so one has to depend on local restaurants, which are fortunately located in close vicinity. All in all, the hotel does manage to put up a great show to the significantly more expensive options. I found Siddhartha (an Oxford educated Lawyer) a source of deep and insightful information on the region, its culture heritage and politics - a convenient guide for the residents!
