“Amazing - Just what I was looking for after traveling India for a month”
Reviewed 3 December 2010

The arrival at Darjeeling is a achievement in itself as the journey is long and difficult. However when I first got here I spent the night in a budget hotel and started looking for something really comfy. The mountains are cold, electricity cuts make generators a standard when looking for accommodation. So far throughout India this is the best place I actually stayed at. The room is modern and actually feels like a hotel not like the rest of India. The bathroom is impressive together with the view is great and the food and service is impeccable. My journeys were long and tough and this was the Oasis I needed. The manager even made sure that I woke up at 3:30 am and waited with me for a cab to watch the sunrise. Clean, Modern conveniences and great service. Best value for money in Darjeeling as the rest are overpriced and the budget hotels are painful to stay in. Amazing place, people and hotel!

This is a family owned hotel about a 5min walk from the hustle and bustle of downtown Darjeeling. Built in the 1920s, it has been fully renovated and is very comfortable. The rooms are large with flat screen tvs, coffe tea set-ups and hot water. Be sure you get the tutorial on using the HW heater, if you leave it on overnight it will shut off and you won't have HW in the a.m.. Power in the city goes out quite often but the hotel generator supplies light right away. When that didn't happen for any reason, mgmt was ready with torches and battery powered lanterns. Also, remind the front desk in the morning if you want your room cleaned each day.
A MAP provides guests with all meals, though you are asked to give approx 12 hrs notice of what you'd like- order breakfast the night before and dinner in the morning- but the quality is excellent and there is a choice of Indian, Nepali, Chinese and Western food, all quite tasty. The mgmt is very attentive and service oriented for the small things which inevitably arise every day.
The only drawback is the lack of internet in the hotel. They are trying to install it but navigating the city bureaucracy (which owns the only ISP) is not done quickly.
The hotel is well maintained, attentive mgmt and good food.
And on those days when the clouds lift, the views of the Himalayas are awesome!
