Owner description: A spectacular narrow gauge steam railway is still operational.

Ever since i saw the song sequence of mere sapno ki rani kab ayegi thu. I wanted to take this train. It is a fairly long stretch (time wise) just besides the curvy road and in many places the track crosses the road without any barricades. This is one railway where there are no signals or people manning road crossing it is just like any other motor car. You can find cars for lack of space getting on to the track. For a railfan you will be surprised to see that trains ply on these tracks as there are no gravel and you cannot see sleepers all burried under sand and dust. Comming to the train... it is pulled by diesel engine with two carriage supposedly first class. The darjeeling station itself looks like a cute garden station. There are steam engines but used only for shunting. The joy ride starts from darjeeling and travels along the curvy road and in front of shop entrances. The onward journey is a steep incline and it stops at Batasia loop which is the most scenic locale the train stops for ten minutes for pax to take pictures and next stop is Ghum which is a small railway station. The train stops for half an hour and ask you to visit the rail museum which is the biggest joke of darjeeling. Anyways the return journey is the same but on the downward side. You will also find a brakeman who keeps rotating a steering wheel kind of thing which is applying brakes for each carriage. I am sure there must be another guy in the other carriage as well. The return journey takes another 50 minutes. In total it is fun and a must for train fans. I enjoyed it though it is not so clean and the tickets are relatively expensive. Do take this train

"Dawaipani", a very new destination in West Bengal, India is very near to Darjeeling town and very far from our hectic city life. The place where one can take the breath on the lap of nature. This village is surrounded by Pine trees and Renowned tea estates like Lamahatta Tea estate, Glenburn Tea estate, Takdah Tea estate. Only 135 houses are there in the village. The main attraction of this village is the uninterrupted view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the clear view of Namchi chardham or Samdruptse Monastery and the Darjeeling town . You will feel like you are somewhere in space when you see the glittering of light of Darjeeling town at night.
Only Two home stay accommodation is there. One is with attached bath. Food and lodging Rs.1200/day/head.
