We traveled on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or the "Toy Train" as it is usually referred to in Aug. It was very cloudy that particular day so we could not enjoy the beautiful scenery (I know its beautiful as I have traveled on it previously). We hardly ever get to see train engines from such close proximity. However on the flip side if you have asthma or allergies stay away from the engines as the smoke from them comes into the bogeys.

This is one attraction that loses its sheen because of poor maintenance and unprofessional staff!
The train ride is priced at INR 400 and takes a 2 hour round trip - Darjeeling-Ghoom-Darjeeling.
It takes a 10 minute halt at Batasia Loop and then a half an hour halt at Ghoom where one is directed to visit the Ghoom Museum which again is a sad reflection on what could have been!!

I was lucky to have taken a trip when this train was puled by a steam engine where the engine was so small that the engine driver's head from almost chest above world be seen when he stands up charging the engine with coal. However for the past many years this train is powered by a diesel locomotive which again is a lovely site to watch and be in...the compartments (more like a toy compartment) can only seat people as there may not be adequate head space to stand up and travel..the speed of the train is so slow that you can jump out have a stretch break and get back on the train, especially during the climb from the base station to the top Dargeeling main station which takes a couple of hours. Adults will be as thrilled as children on this trip!

Enjoyed a lot .......fun to travel in roads by train ....
it was like being in a magic land and me felt like a kid jumping in joy and the reason is due to the climate

One of the best things to do in Darjeeling. You take the fun ride by paying Rs 400 for return ticket from Darjeeling (Darjeeling-Ghoom-Darjeeling). The entire trip takes around 2 hours and you can be sure that it will take you back in time. The museum in Ghoom station will further enthrall you with lots and lots of information about the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.

Don't give it a miss.
