“Gorgeous temple on a small hill”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

The temple looked stunning with all the prayer flags hanging around. Make a small donation at the entrance and you'll get a bracelet/cord around your wrist; ring the bell before going up. Beware of the monkeys: I didn't have any problem with them but don't be surprised when they pop up and don't leave your slippers behind :)

“My Review”

This temple is one of the most sacred when it comes to locals. On the way to the temple from chowrasta you will come across a lot of monkeys.

“Divine and beautiful!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Out of words...A must go! Do not miss! Just avoid the pundits there as they would follow you and take you to each and every mandir in the complex and expect money for each one of them. So politely refuse.Do not miss the cave (goofa) out here as it is small but really beautiful and we get a different feeling all to gether in it!

“one step closer to heaven”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

Serene, mystic and beautiful this is the least i can say about the Temple. Its a 5 mins uphill climb from the Mall and its going to be tough. There are a lot of Monkeys up there but they are harmless until you call for trouble. On a misty morning you will really feel closer to God here. Very good and highly recommended.

“Mahakal temple.”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

The temple is located on the top of observatory hill so theres a small climb. Be careful of the monkeys around the place. DO NOT feed or show them food. The word Darjeeling derives from the tibetian language. It is believed that Lord Indra's scepter (Dorje), and thunderbolt struck on the the place (ling) and thats where the temple is. Once upon a time there used to be a buddhist monastery there so u can still find a buddhist Monk praying alongside a hindu priest in peace and harmony. Great , peaceful place to visit with holy flags all around you.
