The view of the hills from the room was gorgeous. The staff were extremely well behaved and overall helpful. Room was pretty well decorated. Breakfast was overall good. It was a little tricky to locate the hotel at first but once found we realized it wasn't very far away from the central market area of Darjeeling. Overall a good place to stay while in Darjeeling.

Reviewed 25 June 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights in June 2014. It was a bitter sweet experience and I will share why.

First the good things. The location of the hotel is good for those who enjoy solitude and peace. It offers a nice green lawn with wide angle views of the mountain valleys. It was rainy when we were there and we were mesmerized by the views that changed every few minutes as clouds would swallow the entire mountain ranges and then clear up every now and then. It was really magical.

Our room had a large window that overlooked the green mountains and the valley. Waking up each morning to that view was very pleasing. Also, our room had a spacious balcony that could easily seat 4 persons, enjoying our daily morning tea soaking in the beautiful weather and crisp, clean air was really very lovely.

The hotel is a short walk (less than 100 meters) from the mall square and hence offered a quiet and peaceful environment all day long. Good if you want to just laze around, soaking the sun, watching the beautiful lily flowers and the mountain views.

The staff was very helpful and promptly arranged for our cab for pick up as well as drop to New Jalpaiguri. The cabs arranged were really good with professional and courteous drivers.

Now the part that made it bitter. My entire booking experience was not so good, with repeated follow ups required with Mr. Suman over phone and email. It seems the guy just hates to view his mailbox unless informed via phone.

Our room 204 was bang/right opposite the kitchen work area and noise poured in till as late as 11PM at times spoiling our sleep. It was really very terrible for me as I am a very light sleeper and get disturbed very easily. The doors and windows are old, creaky and offer almost no sound insulation at all.

The ambience of the room was awful. It was spacious but looked really old and untasteful. Old wood floor, wood paneled ceiling with really dim lights, an old almirah with no safe. For the price we paid, it was a disappointment.

The bathroom was again spacious - had two wash basins, 2 mirrors, a full size bath tub. But the cleanliness was poor. The bath tub curtain was dirty and throughout our stay was never cleaned or replaced. The water faucet broke twice and had to be repaired. There was no floor mat provided unless asked for. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom and no ventilation and hence it would remain wet and damp after use all day long.

It seemed almost scandolous that this hotel was rated at 4-star for we found no such services. The so called library is a shame, look at the picture I have posted - it is a locked shelf with a poor collection of books. The table tennis table is in bad shape, no equipment around and the serving staff uses that area for relaxing, their lunch, dinner etc. It is not a recreation area unlike what their website or the booking agents would tout for.

They offer WiFi internet but it works only if you sit right besides the reception desk. It is a router that most people use at their homes. With no repeaters installed, you get absolutely no signals in most rooms, atleast not on the floor where room 204 is located.

No newspapers are served. TV sets are old and small. Quality of linen, bath towels is barely average for the price of the room. Toileteries provided are minimal, poor quality and avoidable.

Breakfast menu is hopelessly bad and disappointing. No wonder I saw no foreign tourists at the breakfast table ever. The menu was poor and offered little choice. On all days, we survived on fruits and omelettes. One day they offered potato curry and pooris, other day choley and puris, another day again potato curry and puris. Side dishes like upma was average but poha was tasteless, dry, avoidable. They offered what appeared to be fresh mango and pineapple juice, also milk. Bread was always white with no option for a brown bread.

We did have dinner a couple of times and found the food made there to be good, tasty and served hot. But they never offered any bread other than the plain tawa roti even while their menu listed several types of breads. The menu is a poorly printed A4 sheet draped in dirty plastic.

For almost INR 5000 (USD 83) per night and that too after a 30% discount over regular tarrif rates, I had much higher expectations.

So, if you choose this place for a stay, please demand more for your money and refuse to check into room 204 (I would rate it the worst room on the entire property).

Room Tip: AVOID ROOM 204 at any cost, it is right opposite a very noisy kitchen. You will not be able to sleep...

We got 2 deluxe rooms - 105 & 106 @5000 - 8% discount + tax - for 2 nights. (9th June - 11th June 2014).
I must say our expectations were high, but after entering the room we really got depressed.
The room's interior condition is like a low budget hotel. Rooms were small & damp. Restrooms are even smaller. Very uncomfortable for 2 adults+1kid.
Wi-Fi connection not working from our rooms.
Not just below the Mall as they advertised. It's 300-400m walk uphill to reach mall, which is tough enough in rainy season.
Foods are really costly, example: plain dal, mix veg, etc are 200/- each - and the quantity is not sufficient for 2 people. Paneer butter masala with 6-7 pieces paneer is 275/- .. lol.
To reach the hotel with luggage, you need a porter. Not near a motorable road.

Positive side -
1. Complimentary breakfast is OK - has a good variety to choose from.
2. View from room/private lawn is really awesome if the sky is clear.
3. Lawn garden is well maintained.

Room Tip: If not raining, room 104-107 - all gives you a good view.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback. June is our peak season, it is difficult to sell rooms at lower than that. However, we give super discounts during our lean periods. Very soon, we will have wifi in all rooms. We have clearly mentioned on our website, that vehicles are not allowed near the hotel but we do provide with porter services.

The hotel rooms were small and less spacious but still decent. The hotel is situated near the mall road called Chowrasta. The location is good. But the restaurant of hotel was too bad. It was too expensive charging for 5 star hotel prices, with quality even worse than a local dhaba. The restaurant service was also very bad. They were serving juices with stinking smell in it, food that no one was willing to eat in buffet. The orders were coming after waiting for approx 30-40 minutes.
The bad part was that hotel staff was not willing to make restaurant service any better. Overall, the experience in hotel was below average.

Room Tip: Go for cottage room which have excellent view and are spacious.

The first thing I noticed as soon as I got into the room was the coffee maker that wasn't cleaned and had water in it from who-knows ago. There was no room heater and when I asked for one, the receptionist said they provide heaters only in the winter. He then said that he could provide one if I really needed it but he never did. The mattress was hard, the walls were stained and chipped off in a corner, the chairs in the balcony were dusty, there was only a tiny bulb in the bathroom and there was no Wi-Fi in the room. The reason I'm giving two stars for this place is for the beautiful view of the valley from the balcony. I can't believe I paid 5000 rupees for a room that doesn't deserve more than a thousand rupees and a coat of paint.

Room Tip: The receptionist said that only the rooms close to the office have a good Wi-Fi reception. So, choos...

Stayed along with my wife and friends. Booked the place after reading the review in Trip Adviser. We really liked the place and overall was a good experience
Positive:
Good Location: Just 2 mins walking from Chowrasta (Heart of Darjeeling). The hotel is not directly accessible through car. The car will drop you near Bhanu Bhavan and walk from there for around 5 mins. The hotel arranged for pickup and drop of luggage. So not recommended for people who have problem walking. But the location is ideal for scenic view and is peaceful.
Humble Staff: Good service, provided us lunch at 12:30 whereas other restaurants denied at that time.
Nice view from room
Neat and clean room and bathroom
Negative:
Complementary Breakfast was not great. Need to increase the number of items

First the positives:
- Courteous staff and they are trying to do their best to please you. But that is true for most other hotels in Darjeeling.
- The lawn is quite nice, as you can see from the photos.
- We had room 404 and 401 at the top floor (attic) and 401 had a private balcony with chairs, which was great.
-Bathrooms were clean and quite nice
- Linens were clean and the bed was comfortable.

This is where the good things end.

The not so nice things:
-In short this is a dark and dingy place with dirty rooms. It reminded us of cheap motels (read shady) off I90 on our drive down south.
-It may not be fair to compare this with a hotel in the US, but considering we paid equivalent of what we would pay to spend a night at the Hilton near Yellowstone NP, this would be a nothing better that a "Super 6".
-The staircase leading to the rooms were dark and lit by dim CFL lamps. The lighting in the rooms were uninviting CFL. Did I say uninviting and cold! No bedside lamps!! Imagine getting up at night in a new place and no lights.
- The Darjeeling tea they served was an utter disappointment.
- The narrow hallway leading to the dining room has a trip hazard. Three out of our team of 5 tripped at the same spot.
-Food for breakfast was not good. It wasn't terrible, but considering there are so many good places to eat right off the mall, its a waste.
- The hotel is a 5 min hike through a narrow dirty lane and is not something that fits the bill

Bottom Line: Avoid, if you can and If you can't, remember they don't deserve the hefty rates they ask for. As of 2014 May I would not pay them a penny over 4000 INR per night. Thats just my opinion.

Room Tip: 401 had a nice balcony. and the Bathroom was clean.
