A great place to take bird photographs in winter season due to the high volume of migratory birds. This place is a must visit for those interested in bird photography.

Lava, situated in North Bengal, is the land of dense forests and high mountains. We took Kanchankannya Express from Sealdah to New Mal junction in North Bengal. It was an overnight journey. From New Mal station via car we traveled to Lava. The way was through steep mountains and dense forests. Our car was going through narrow roads in between the mountains. It was a dangerous journey but the drivers there are really expert in driving through those narrow mountains. I was mesmerized by the view of the mountains. There we saw many tea gardens on the way. The ladies were plucking tea leaves. One side of the narrow roads were those huge rock mountains and on the other side was huge pine trees. On the way, we came across a number of waterfalls. Also we saw many stains of waterfalls on the body of the mountains, which showed that there was waterfalls there at some point of time, but now it has dried up. The color of those water was green and it looked amazing. After some time our car stopped at a point on the mountains, to wait for the next car to arrive. There for the first time I put my feet on the mountains and I felt so excited by touching them. After a journey of almost three hours we reached our hotel at Lava. Suddenly the weather changed and it was damn cold there. We could feel the drastic change in weather and that was the time I first got a stunning view of the Kanchenjunga. She is so beautiful. The Kanchenjunga remains covered with snow all round the year. We stayed at “Hotel Inn Lava”. The hotel was nice. After having lunch, we went to a Buddhist Monastery, which was a ten minute walk from our hotel. The place was very clean and peaceful. It was the place of Lord Buddha. If you seat there for some time, you will feel good and relieved from all worries of life. There we met many monks. Some were too young. We saw some clothes hanging there with Buddhist inscriptions written on them.We sat there on the edge of the boundary of the Monastery and have a view of Kanchenjunga from there. It was really amazing. The next morning we went to the Mal in Lava. There was a Vishnu Mandir. There were chairs for visitors to have a seat and enjoy the view of the mountains. The view of the small houses with sliding roofs,in the lap of the mountains was so glorious. The people of Lava are very peace loved.I bought some Chinese bells from there. The next morning we started our journey for Lolegaon. There is not much to see in Lava, but if you love mountains and forests, then you will surely love this place.
