This monastery has been listed under Darjeeling instead of Kalimpong which may prove confusing. It is definitely in Kalimpong and stands on Durpin Hill which gives it the alternative name of Durpin Monastery.
It's not a particularly old monastery, opened by the Dalai Lama back in the 1970s. It is however quite a beautiful one.
We turned up during worship and would normally have stayed outside in the garden until the prayers were over, but it was raining so hard that we headed inside, took a place on the floor mattresses at the edge of the room and sat an listened for about half an hour. Nobody seemed to mind us being there and we enjoyed watching and listening. After the service we took a stroll around the inside and took some photographs of the lavish decorations.
