“Most preferred mode of public transport”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

It's most suited in Kolkata's sweltering heat to commute by the metro trains which are pretty reasonable and save a lot of time (of course, if it lies your way)
I traveled the route connecting Marble Palace (MG Road), Esplanade and St. Paul cathedral (Maidan). It's safe and convenient.

“Good Experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2014

What better way to expeience the life of a local but to take a ride in their public transport? Good to try it for a station or 2 as it's really very crowded. Took it for my trip to Kalighat Temple from hotel along Park Street. Quite a fast sevice. But do take note of its operating hours. Doesn't run till very late and it starts really late, in the afternoon, on Sundays.

“Good connectivity”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2014

Though an old metro network, it is a very cost effective mode of transport and is also tourist friendly. It connects most parts of the city and is also a good way to avoid the evening traffic on the roads. The metro platforms in certain stations also have good public art on display portraying scenes of Bengal.

Metro Rail Kolkatta is the First metro of India. it is a respite for locals in a otherwise congested city where traffic just cripples.

“Convenient”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

Considering that roads only cover 5% of the surface area in Kolkata, the traffic is congested and rash driving is common. One can escape all this to some extent by using the underground metro. Although it is crowded most of the times, the ride is comfortable (relatively!) and covers important areas of the city. A good amount of automation has been done using technology. Other cities in the country can do with something like this.
